ok i took my 96 talon tsi in and had it all checked out and they told me that i had a bad valve lash adjuster (lifter), and i was wondering if that will affect my performance and if i should worry about getting a new one and if so where can i find one and a price would be nice..i had bought a Penn Warranty when i bought the car but they wont cover it cuz i had my car inspected before the warranty was into affect...im still running about 160psi compression though so i guess thats good but still i want to get this fixed.what all will i need.the quote i got was $385 but will probably do it myself if i can get the parts cheap.

i dunno the valvetrain too well, but its pretty easy to yank the valve cover.. a cuple good writeups are on the mods link ^^

i dunno if u need to yank anything to replace the lifter, but im sure sum peeps will hit u up w/answers..

As far as replacing them. There was a post that had all sorts of good pictures on how to wedge the rockers out with 2 screwdrivers. I can't for the life of me find it. I'm kicking myself in the ass for not downloading or bookmarkiing it. If someone knows what I'm talking about please repost.

If noone replys, the trick is to use TWO big screwdrivers. Wedge one against the rocker arm(next to the lifter). Use the other to wedge up on the rocker(on the lifter side), while holding the rocker steady with the other(don't let it move to the side). Pushing up on the lash side of the rocker you will actually be pushing the valve down. Once the rocker has enough clearance over the lifter - slowly allow the rocker to move to the side(with your steady-ing screwdriver) while maintaining clearance with your clearence screwdriver until it is clear of the lifter, and then slowly release the pressure from the rocker untill it is free. You should be able to pull the rocker arm and the lifter right out. For installation simply reverse the procedure.

My lifter came off track or whatever and the fixed it for $140. It was causing my car to misfire, engine code 21 I believe.

who fixed it for $140, thats a good price i was quoted $385.will them lifters from howell work on my 4g63?if not where can i get some at?

I didn't notice you had a 4g63. It looks like Howell's are only for the 420a, but I don't know. Does someone?

since you have a 4g63 engine, i would consult the 2gnt 4g section, or dsmtalk.com

maybe call up RRE and see what they have to say about it...
