Mine does it cause I have no cat and I run kinda rich, same reason I shoot fireballs.

it is natural for a turbo 420A to do this between shifts due to drastic differences in fuel pressures we run from lb-to-lb. If you shift at 100lbs of pressure, it doesn't bleed off fast enough to keep some of that fuel from getting injected into a lower absolute volume of air - we run rich for a short duration when the peak air volume drops. (ie at peak boost, when fuel presures have topped out between shifts. you shift, the peak air mass drops but your fuel presure can't fall fast enough - you're left with your foot in the gas and a slightly higher fuel pressure than you would otherwise desire. For a split second, you've got more fuel than air, and you spit some black smoke.)

Deal with it.

Oops.

Then call it a comparison for explaination's sake. The same could hold true to a lesser degree: as vaccuum decreases, fuel pressure rises. When a shift occures, for a split second the output of fuel for the given metered mass of air is greater than it should be due to the previouly noted increase in fuel pressure. In that short given instance you would run rich, causing a puff or two of black smoke.

Theoretics aside, and important questions now: What color is the smoke??

Well mine is black and there is a lot of smoke and it's usually accompanied by a loud pop or two and the A/F going rich. (DUH!) I know what mine is, it's Ecliptic's that I am really wondering about.
