I don't know much about this OBD-I or OBD-II. I have a 1995 GS. Do I have the 1 or 2? DO they make a data logger for the OBD-I? What does it do? Tell me all you know.....ect.

Will it flash my computer like on the !996 and up cars?

You have obd-1,all that is is the 1st generation of an on-board diagnostic program. To modify it you usually use a reprogrammed chip that you insert into the pcm. The port (which I believe is located behind where the foglight/cruise on and off panel is) is just to grab diagnostic codes to check problems. In obd-2 the pcm is flashable meaning you use a datalogging device to change the settings according to different modifications. It also does cool stuff like modify ignition for the highest performance available, and adjust air/fuel ratios for proper emissions all by itself. I heard that they are developing obd-6 right now. Obd-3 is tied up in court because it does shitty stuff like if your car violates emmissions it sends a signal to people like the epa and carb (you cali guys must love them!) and they send you a letter saying if you don't get it fixed in X days you lose your car/license, etc. If thereissome kind of piggyback controller for the obd-1 on our cars that would be neat to have as I have a 95 rs.

Will it let me change my settings?

No. You can use a datalogger to read codes and take real time sensor readings. You can't change any engine parameters with a datalogger, however you can clear codes with them.

What is it that you want to change?

Alot of the members here use the A'PEXi S-AFC to modify the feul trim. http://www.apexi-usa.com/electronics_safc.asp There are aftermarket ignition upgrades availiable, that let you play with the timing. A standalone system(computer replacement) will let you change anything you want.

Just buy Alex's obd-2 cable and download the software. Or order the end from alex, and make the rest of the cable yourself. And have someone hook you up with the password to unlock the software, or if your a college student, Alex will cut you a good deal if you fax him a report card or papers showing your in school.
