23083, Rebuild/Stroker kit
Posted by jkoston, May-14-02 09:59 AM
I'm thinking about going with the stroker kit and higher compression over summer. Gonna save some money. But I need an idea of what price i'm looking at for the work.

Anyone recommend some good places to get this work done in so cal? I wanna do the top end and bottom end, with the stroker. Maybe over bored. But I don't know any good places to talk to about the labor. I could use some recommendations so I can make some calls.

I'm in Rialto (San Bernardino area)

Thanks guys

hmm.. funny you should mention this topic.. i too am in the so cal area and i am looking for a good place to do some engine work.. im still deciding on just doing the bottom end or going with the stroker kit.. i need to get some compression numbers first, but my engine is closing in on 130k and i dont know how it will handle boost... so if anyone in so cal knows a good reputable shop.. speak up! tia

I'd say pay the extra $600 and get the stroker. The stroker is just the bottom end kit with the extra

bumpy bumpy
23088, do the stroker...
Posted by Skrilla, May-15-02 12:59 PM
I'll help you build it. 2.2L is nice for several reasons. Permanent NA power, displacement(of coarse), and 20% faster turbo spool(if you ever go that route). Could have a T3/T4 spooling by 2700rpms all the time, that would be nice. How 'bout this - more power per pound of boost than a 2L and same mods. Who cares for 600 bucks you only do it once and it is there plus the 2.2's high rev ability, what else do you need to convince you. My guesstimate would be 160HP just with the stroker and a tad bit of compression with no other mods, not to mention the extra torque. Each bolton will make more of an impact. You should also be able to chirp 3rd easily...
...anyway the list goes on and it's only 600 extra bucks, sell your sister or something (haha) or work some extra couple hours. If that won't convince you I don't know what will...

when you say "160 hp" do you mean at the wheels?

just curious
23091, you wish...

...160hp motor as apposed to a the bone stock 140(crank - flywheel)
23092, Crank from 2.4L 420A

Would the crank from the 2.4L 420A fit in our 2.0L blocks? I know that @ the very least it would involve custom length rods & pistons? Or would it simlpy be easier just to purchase a 2.4L ? just curious guys....

I believe the crank will fit but that gives you a problem. The 2.4L block is an inch taller. With that crank you'll push the piston through the head! Unless someone will make you a deck plate, good luck! It won't work

Well I have decided to pay the extra cash and rebuild with the stroker.... hey skrilla how much power do you think it would dish out with the lower compression pistons for turbo setup(I mean with out the turbo just stroked lower comp 8....)

ahahah 160HP is more than my car has with the turbo :P

so stroker kit is like the top end kit and a modified crank? One day when I'm rolling in cash I will build my car into a monster :(

the stroker kit is the bottom end kit with a modified crank and all the extras... and still i ask, is there anyone out in the so cali area that knows of a good engine shop? i know there are several of us that will need some guidance when these kits are out with the cranks included in the package.
