I figured that this should be a fairly easy job, cause I have the Chilton's book for fixing most minor issues, but the diagram for the drain, and fill plugs on the transaxle are terrible. I can't tell what bolts/plugs the diagram is pointing to in the book. This should be a fairly easy job right? Have a lot of you changed your own trans. oil? I'm at 68K miles, and haven't changed it before, and it's becoming Hell to shift. Can someone point me to an online "2GNT only" transaxle oil change how-to (if there's a such thing). The one at Clubdsm.com is for both, but shows a 1G in the diagram.

Get under the car. Look on the tranny where the passenger side axle comes out. There is a bolt that says drain next to it. Unscrew this and have something to catch the fluid. You may also want to jack the car up one side at a time to get all the fluid out. Then put the plug back in and on the tranny where the drivers side axle is there is a rubber plug. Pull this plug and fill up to the bottom of the plug hole.

Thanks man! I'm going to do this as soon as I go home. I have a short shifter coming in the mail, and I'd like to enjoy it with a nice smooth shift. My shifts are so hard now, it almost feels like it's dry inside the transaxle. I guess that's what I get for waiting so long.

i didnt do it correctly but it was a lot easier, i drained it, then filled it through the reverse switch, i removed it and filled, then replaced it, i just put approx 2.2 quarts in it...

Ok, can someone help me out asap?! I'm working on draining the tranny now, but how in the world are you supposed to fill it up through the filler hole? It's too tight between the axle, and the metal wall that's there. Can you go from the top of the engine, or the side of the wheel well. I've tried getting to it both ways, and can't.

You need one of those LONG funnels. Try using a small piece of pvc pipe and a normal funnel, that should work.

Do you have to remove the battery, and battery holder to get down in there from the top of the engine? I tried looking straight down in there, and I didn't notice a clear path anywhere.

Actually i made like a beer bong contraption... Long hose connected to a funnel, and filled it from the wheel well.

Yeah, I bought one of those hoses that are specially made for attaching to fluid bottles so you can pour fluid into hard to reach places, so I'll try from the wheel weel today. Does the filler plug unscrew out, or do you just pull it out?

It has a little bit of a vacuum to it. I just took a flat screwdriver and pryed it off enough to pop the pressure. Then i just pulled it out. I had the battery tray off when i did it. Its a pain to put the end of whatever funnel and hose deal you have. I was under the car and had someone feed the hose down as i pushed it with my finger into the hole. Its a pain in the ass but if you have a helper it shouldnt be too difficult. I noticed a huge differance after i changed mine, but dont spill that stuff--- PU
