22932, The dumbest thing I've done in my entire life. Posted by Hek, May-10-02 07:00 PM
My oil pessure gauge was not working and my oil pan was leaking at the drain plug. It was like 4:00 in the morning so my dumb a** kept driving trying to make it home. Well you know where this is going, I ended up with a stalled engine. I'm pretty sure my pistons seized and my head is f**ked.
I really would like to just get it running again. Should do a rebuild or try finding a used engine from the salvage yard.
My mechanic told me it would be to expensive to do a rebuild and it would be more affordable to just get a used engine with low mileage.
What do you guys think? Please help me out.
P.S. I've paid my car off and really whan't to keep it
95 Gs 420a
Few Mods: AEM CAI Eibach Pro Kit DTM style muffler (will definately change to Thermal catback)

How much can you afford? That's the real question here.
If you can afford to drop some dough on it, click the Howell Automotive banner that will (eventually if you click refresh) appear above - get their contact number, call them and see about ordering thier stroker rebuild kit (they can give you more details on it than i am willing to type here, if you don't know what i am talking about, or you can reply and i will catch it tomorrow when i have more time.)
You could go many advantageous ways in this situation, if you are willing to pay for it. Any time you have the oportunity to rebuild a motor you can drop in better parts which in this case, would give you the ability to run higher boost if you were to turbocharge or huge shots of nitrous if you were to go that route. You have a chance to upgrade your car as it stands now, or you could pay a similar amount of money to drop a stock motor in it.
Would you rather pay for stock performance, or shop a little bit to upgrade something you need to fix anyway?

Another thing to consider Dino is that, like he said, probably more then the bottom end is fucked up. A while back a friend and me were cruising around in this little honda his dad picked up for cheap that hadn't been driven in a while.. so we were driving it just to try and re-breakin the motor. well from time to time the oil lit would come on (so we know the oil was getting low) well to make a long story short, the oil light actually had a short and was on the whole damn time (but was looking like it was just low, when the block was actually DRY!) and it seized the overhead cam. the bottom end still turned fine (we could crank it over) but the cam just sat there (sheared off the cam sprocket). So his head could be screwed too.. and possibly valves.. hell, if that's the case it's practically the whole engine needs a rebuild and the howell kit won't do that. he should be able to get a running used 420a for WAY less then just the bottom end rebuild kit.. let alone getting the head completely rebuilt too.
