i got some noise coming from the timing belt area, it sounds like metal on metal grinding, or sounds like something is loose. what kind of noises does the timing belt make when it's loose? could it be something else. i can't figure it out, i might have to go to satan soon, but i don't want to do that. help!!!

Its more than likely your timing belt tensioner. how many miles are on it? and you have replaced the belt and tensioners before? it not- do it soon - if it has around 60,000. otherwise-you'll be pissed later. The metal to metal noise came from my car too, when the timing belt tensioner went bad.

yeah, i've had the belt replaced, but i'm not so sure about the tensioner. thanks man, i'll take a look at that.

Its most likely something in the T-belt path. The tensioner itself will not cause any metalic noise, but the tensioner pulley can, and also the T-belt idler pulley. Water pump also...I'd check all of those..

To answer your question if it is the tensioner, your going to have to replace it, it's just a small roller wheel to keep the belt tight. What has probably happened is the ball bearings have come out and you are running out of time. I remember posting last week on the subject of someone only replacing the belt and not the tensioner, the result is still the same, change belt along with tensioner, especially after noticing the condition of mine-you may want to remove the inspection cover to try and get a peek in to see what may be the problem, don't run your car too much you dont want whatever is grinding to totally break, have it towed if possible-yes I mean the old fashioned rope pull tow if you don't want to pay the wrecker fee- it may not be your tensioner but anyway satan's gonna want from 50 to 70 bucks just to tell you what the problem is so my advice, try to get a friend or someone on the board to help you figure out what it is and try to do it yourself with the help of an expert.
