Okay with all the talk about head lately. I've been thinking about cam gears. I know I want them eventually. I was looking at the AEM and the Unorthodox Cam Gear sets. The Unorthodox Gears are a little more expensive but look a little better to me. The biggest think I like about them is that they have 5 screws to hold timing versus AEM's 3. I am curious about weight. Unorthodox actually mentions that they are lighter than stock gears. Both are made from Aluminum. I wondering if anyone knows the weights of the two brands. And less weight the motor has to turn will increase power slightly, without any adjustments.

If I remember right Stan had AEM's that kept coming off his settings, and I think we all remember what happened to Marcus's head after his Cam gears didn't quit hold together, and they were AEM. This just makes me wonder if Unorthodox is a better way to go.

So give me your opinions and any info you might have.

i have AEM and as long as you tighten to a little more than 15lbs per foot on each screw i have been told they are fine. i like my AEM gears....i may be able to give you a weight cause i think i weighed them and wrote it down at home(at work)...i will look and see what i can do.

And for the stuff in my room... Can't convert to rear discs until my rotors and pads get here (just ordered those, end of last week), same with SS lines. The RRE Tie Bar isn't here yet, Oh Skrilla.... any updates? I thought they were shipping? And I have had a change of plans with the manifold. My friend was going to do it for me, but he has gotten very busy with his own project and really doesn't have the time anymore. My other friend who could do it, is always on the road, he work on a pit crew. So now I need to look for a place to do the porting for me, or get bold and buy a dremel with al the bits... As for the rear motor mount insert... I'm not sure how I'm going to even get to the mount. When I do the manifold I'll take the battery out etc and see if I can get to. I looked with the battery out and ot didn't look like i was going to be able to get to it, day light was running out, so I just put it back together. So either when the manifold goes on, or I wait till I do lightened flywheel and clutch.

Wow, I didn't know that unorthodox made cam gears for our cars? I thought they only did Honda stuff... I like the 5 bolt idea, but that also makes it harder to adjust. You'll have to keep rotating to get to all 5 bolts. AEM has just release a newer style bolt. Instead of the allen bolt, it is a hex bolt (8mm I believe) that uses a washer too. That is a much better design, and I will be changing to those asap...

??? new??? that is what mine are... at least it has an allen wrench to tighten but it has a lock washer under it. doesnt yours? also do you think they will sell just the bolts so i dont have to spend another 135 per gear ???

Mine didn't have a washer under it. Your Allen bolts have a separate washer under it?? Ya I'm sure they will sell you the bolts for just a few bucks. Tell them you heard there are new hex bolts that are out, try emailing tech@aempower.com

hello my aem cam gears which i got from AEM 2 weeks ago have washers under the allen bolts, AND they came with a set of the standard hex bolt. The allens are 5/16 allens, and the hex's are 5/16. I really like the allen better, it is much harder to adjust the sprockets with the standard hex's and i stripped one of the heads out and had to cut the dang thing off. for some reason the Standard Hex Head bolts are some kind of not too good metal with an electroless nickle plating. What I did was buy some grade 8 button head allen screws. they make it easier to adjust and do not strip out. you will strip your allen wrench before you strip the bolts!
