22185, turbo ????

hey guys how is it going??:)
i own a 95 eclipse non turbo (wish i would have known and i would have gotten a gsx or gst but i was young and foolish)x(
im looking at the turbo pages and all you guys vote for turbos and im leaning towards turbo rather than all-motor.
Now what i like to know is that what is the maintance required after installing a turbo...oil, sparkplugs..how often? will it still be the same change-oil-every-3000-miles sort of deal. Also i was told a while back by a mechanic that owns a NAPA store in salem, oregon
that if i was to install a turbo on my car it will ruin it and basically i will only be able to get maybe 30000 miles or less before it blows. Is this true? if not are there any down sides to getting a turbo? Also will what are the steps to take before installing a turbo or what are the steps for preparing an engine for a turbo upgrade?
and lastly will it be worth installing it on a 140000 mile eclipse?
thanks guys any help will be greatly appreciated
:thumbsup

you'll need to do a compression test to make sure your motor is in good running order before turbo'ing. I personaly don't think that maintenence is any higher after installing a turbo (unless you break something) but it seems like most poeple around here go wacko on the maintnence (like changing spark plugs every 5K miles or the oil ever 1500 miles) quite overkill. In any case.. it depends on a few factors as to how long your motor will last after having turbo installed.. the current shape of the engine, how you drive it, how well you tune the motor with the turbo, and how much boost you run with the turbo. those are all factors.
And for a side note! you live in Salem OR??? I'm up near Portland, OR man. that's coo.

I get my stuff from the web.. the guys at speed concepts are assholes. the guys at Alta sports are a little better, but they don't talk to you unless you drive an import and their prices suck.

umm.. and how much are you looking at.. are you talking to get a turbo kit? or what? turbo kits are anywhere from 2K to 8K just for the hardware.

Hey there are some other Oregonians on here.Sweet.I'm from Eugene.Oh and Breezio i'm going to have to give ya a race when I go to Speed Concept to get my Blitz kit.hehe.Anyways how's the street racing going up there? I heard the cops are towing the cars of even just spectators! That would suck.Down here we race all night without a problem.it kicks ass.we even a had KEZI, the local ABC station filming all of our cars and then they went out to our spot with us and filmed us racing.

Back to the original question...

Turboing your engine will not "basically ruin it". As long as you maintain it well and don't get foolish with the tuning, the engine should last a long time. 30,000 miles is certainly obtainable with the stock internals as long as you understand what you are doing and fix any problems you may have before they cause damage.

Chances are, howerever, that a '95 has higher mileage and will blow faster than an engine with lower miles. If you are worried about more maintenance, a turbo engine isn't in your future. The largest part of driving a turbo'd car is taking care of it ALL the time. If you don't treat it well, it won't treat you well either.

You could always rebuild the engine. Then you know you are ready to handle the extra power.

hey guys i appreciated all your help
it is very helpfull because im debating to weather trade my car for a gst or maybe a gsx but im also worried about insurance and also if i get a another car im going to have to relearn all its problems
as for my car i love it but its just that it doesnt have the power i want (not even to beat my brothers 93 integra gs, pitiful i know :wary)but i do like what im paying for insurance. See i work at a restaurant and the other day a guy came in with an eclipse gst and i asked him what was he paying for insurance and he said 250 a month, i was like woooooow!! ( he also said he gotten like three speeding tickets in the past six years) so i dont know what ill do

Ohh...yes im from oregon and it does feel good to know that fellow brothers are close by and yes i also think that speedconcept crew are assholes how ever racedezings i think are much better and they always asked me what the is the lowest price i've gotten for everything i buy cause they always beat any prices. Which i think is pretty cool.

The racing scene up here.. well I haven't been back out to it since last summer when they closed down our main gathering spot (which was a damn nice one by the way, Portland Meadows parking lot) but yeah.. they passed the oridinance that if you are even watching illegal racing they will tow your car. which sucks major ass.. and i'm not even sure how legal that whole thing is.
And yeah dude.. definatly let me know when you are comming up to speed concept for your kit (I live a whopping a mile from their shop)

and Race denzins? I haven't heard of them.. where are they located?
