22170, if the coil pack is bad would it cause? Posted by pn0ymahal, May-03-02 11:15 AM
if the coil pack is bad would this cause a leaner reading on the a/f then normal reading in anyway? if not what do you think might? also i broke the clip on the adapter harness to the coil with the 3 wires coming out how would i go about removing it? i think i might be able to use a thin screwdriver to pop it out, biut i forgot do we lift or push down to pull it out?....

IT would definately not be leaner. It would not be firing properly so it would in fact be richer. As for as the other ?'s, sorry man, I have never taken ours apart so I don't know.

If you had a bad coil your car would pretty much run like sh*t ie poor idle, poor gas mileage, possibly misfiring, low power. If your not sure of a bad coil pack check under 2gnt page for resistance values. Another way check the spark plugs a non working coil would have major carbon build up on the spark plugs to "wet plugs from unburnt gas". I found it working on the old ford trucks. The coils were known have gone bad and the wiring known to melt from excessive heat. I really won't be prompt to dismissing a bad coil. I would check the wiring first to see it its not melted and not grounding out the wire.

Whoops I didn't see your mods Your cars turboed One question Did the A/f just suddenly go lean or was it gradually? Basically I would recheck the values on the S-AFC set to a bit rich. A lean condition may mean NOT enough fuel getting to your engine. Could be boost to high, Inadequate fuel/pressure, clogged fuel filter, faulty fuel injector, not connected fuel harness. S-AFC not set right.

well my afc is not tuned just the basic settings till i put my new injectors in... the a/f drops gradually with more boost or when it feels like hehe... do you check the coil voltage output with the battary disconnected or does it matter? i got no cel my car does idle in D at a light sorta bad but then again this was even before the turbo sorta shakes idle around high 600s to up to 850 in D at a lights...

Ummm Dude Never check your coil with the batt connected you'll possibly fry your coil or the biggest shock of your life :> . If i wasn't clear remove the coil pack and check its resistance using an ohmmeter. If the resistance is not with in specs you'll need to replace it. I doubt though nothing is wrong with your coil pack from your earlier post. Check the wiring from your crane etc.... Regarding the lean condition I think your not getting enough fuel. The SAFC I would tune it, should'nt take long . Remember Lean conditions (not enough fuel, high exhaust temps, increasing A/f will destroy an engine and more $$$$).
