I know this is a non-turbo site, but it seems like you guys know everything about everything, so I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with this. The check engine light came on in my '96 GS-T. I wasn't about to pay $65 for the dealership to tell me that I hadn't tightened the gas cap or I had got on it too hard and something had happened, only to have it happen again down the road and have to pay $65 again. So I bought Chilton's manual thinking that I would be able to get the codes, fix the problem, and reset it. The manual says to cycle the key on, off, on, off, on within five seconds. And then the check engine light will flash you the codes. This didn't work. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this didn't work? Is there something I could have done wrong (doesn't seem that hard to cycle the key) or is there another way to do it?

When mine came on when I installed my MSD DIS-2 everybody just told me to disconnect the battery for a few minutes then reconnect. I am not sure if its the same for you but I dont see why it wouldn't work.

The Key trick should work. Make sure you turn the key all the way to the ignition spot not accessory. It is on-off-on-off-on and leave it in the on position. Wait a few seconds after the CE light goes out and then it should start flashing. Maybe you didn't wait after the CE light went out either. Where are you located? Maybe there is somebody on the board close to you willing to take a quick look. Do you have any other symptoms besides the CE light?

The key trick only works on the 420A. Mitsubishi engineers didn't feel the need to put the key dance trick on any of their ECUs. Therefore, since you have a GS-T, it won't work.

the key trick only works with some 420As. it will never work with 2G 4G63 at all. they only way to get codes of 2G 4G63 car is to take it to the dealer, or if you have Data logger "TMO" or maybe something else. 1Gs 4G63s are different tho, if you had 1G then any Volt meter would do the trick.
