21862, OBX header update....
Posted by onefastgs, Apr-30-02 01:03 PM
Well I do not think I got the OBX header. I think they sent me something different. Has any body seen a OBX header? This is what they sent me. It looks like the one that was on ebay. I wanted a 4-2-1 header. Should I send it back?

out of curiosity, why did u want a 4-2-1 instead of a 4-1 header??

tia, and good luck.. looks sweet to me

I think the 4-2-1 is more free flow than a 4-1. In the 4-2-1, you have 4 pipes that go into 2 pipes and then 1. Where as the 4-1, 4 pipes go straight into 1 pipe, which is just like the stock exhaust manifold just with bigger pipes. This is like having 4 people going through 1 door to get out building. Not very free flowing. You can get about the same results of a 4-1 header by just having your stock exhaust manifold ported out. Somebody jump in here if i'm wrong.

4-1 are supposed to have better top end flow, since the collector is larger. 4-2-1 is supposed to not lose as much low end. So I think overall 4-1 is the most free flowing.

First someone said those are press bent so send them back!

as far as 4-1 or 4-2-1 goes. 4-1 is better BUT in your case those headers are not. most 4-1 headers the 4 pipes go almost to the cat. The ones in the pic dont even make the bend!

I would send them back and get the OBX ones. They are cheep and our coated w/flex. They are a true 4-2-1.

The best part about the ones you got is that they are stainless.

NOW! I sure your looking for a performance gain since your bought some headers. personally headers would be the last thing I ever buy. Import Tuner only got .4HP!!!

I would get a UDP, CAI, Cam Gears, Bored TB, New Plugs and wires.
All these give you more the .4HP even exhaust.

After I saw that I think I will never get headers.

man, i dont know what all the bad mouthing of headers are for... even if they showed a .4hp gain, i def felt a diference and would buy them again.. plus, they look good, and if you were planning to go all motor, then you would need the larger piping. i know there are many that will agree with me when i say i felt a differnce.

I'm very happy with my header, I would buy it again in a heartbeat. It's not all about peak hp, if you gain in the rest of the rpm range, it's worth it. And a 4-1 header is a huge difference from a stock manifold. The piping is smooth and has better flow characteristics, and equal legnth runners so the exhaust gas p

Aside from the performance gains of a header, look at the difference in the weight. . .That stock manifold is heavy as shit and headers are lighter.

Even with my 4-2-1 header I notice a nice gain over the stock one. With auto would I have receive a better gain with a 4-1 or was the 4-2-1 a good choice.

4-2-1 is probably a better choice with an auto. provided that the correct tubes are matched up.

The part number is correct, the h9599 is the obx part number. The other number may be the order number or part number from the place you bought it from. The 4-1 design is the only one available from obx and i personally like this design. As for the equal runners not being long enough i disagree. The design of after market headers are based on how the originals fit in the car and the placement of the cat. depending on where you bought the header they may have used a standard picture for an example. I personally would not worry about it and put the dam thing on and enjoy the extra power.

Thank guys for all the replies.
I just e-mailed the place and told them I got the wrong stuff.

Journeyski so obx doesn’t make a 4-2-1? Man I'm going to look like a dumb ass if they don’t. Saying they send me the wrong stuff. Well I know there not OBX because, OBX doesn’t make a header in stainless steal for the eclipse.

I just called obx today and asked them if they make stainless headers for us and the said they did. I think people just dont stock them.

OK OK headers are ok but it still would be my last mod. Weight would help also.

I can only find 3 vendors that sell OBX stuff.

Talon95Stang did they tell you if they where 4-2-1 or 4-1?
21878, RE: OBX header update....
Posted by Talon95Stang, May-01-02 06:06 PM
I didnt ask. I could barly understand the guy(if you know what i mean)

I sure they are 4-2-1 though. I doubt they have 2 different molds for are app.

They make them but it will be hard getting some stainless because no one stocks them. a company would rather sell what is instock.

The coated ones should be ok. Good luck.

Just got A e-mail for the place where I got the header. They told me that OBX does not make a header for the eclipse. And the one they send me is a STONE RACING header. Has anybody ever heard of this header? They also told if I did not like the header I can send it back for a refund. Then they told me that they do not make ceramic due to the fact that the heat chips the paint of the Ceramic away.

shuwa29 paid 217.20 to my door. I got them for http://www.ssautochrome.com/ But there are calling them selfs
OBX racing performance.

Well I went and installed the header. The install was a pain in the butt. The part where manifold goes in to the down pipe was leaking so I had to buy a clap to put there. Had to drill out the holes for the bolts where the down pipe and the cat go together. The holes on the down pipe where to small. Also had to take the manifold to a shop to get the extra hole patched up. Why it had that extra hole I don’t know.
I did get H.P. and T.Q. but I still got more from the pacesetter 4-2-1 header I had on my 95. Still they look cool as hell not bad for greddy knock offs for $217.
Question for anybody with the greddy header. Did your header leak where the manifold and down pipe go together?
