My car used to back fire a littel when I let off the gas and leave it in gear. Especially in 1st or second gear. I have a cat back and I have no cat. Today I noticed that the car was making very small backfires(little poping noises) when idling. It never used to do this before. I did get a CEL light today that was a 43 which is the ignition. I changed the plugs and wires and the code hasnt left yet. I know it takes a little while for it to go away. I have had this code before because of bad wires so its no big deal. Tomorrow if the CEL doesnt go out then I am goign to change the coil. Can backfiring be caused by ignition problems ?

If your coil isnt putting out the right amount of spark, you might be running extremely rich. Extremely rich on a hot running mildly high compression turbo charged car will getcha backfires :D

Thats what I am thinking. I also noticed something else. My throttle body and the intake manifold are getting kinda black. I think I might have a leak where the intake piping meets the throttle body. I guess I am going to have to do some work on my car tomorrow.

Do you have a catchcan? Might be a good idea seeing how youre boosted and all. Keep that oil from greasing up your IC pipes, TB and manifold. Good luck :)

I have a 2 foot hose going down to the tranny area. It just dumps to the street. I guess I could put a little can on it.
