what the heck did ya do to cause that kind of damage? bending valves and shit won't happen on it's own under normal use. Do you trust them? they might be pulling your chain. Have you done any timing belt service recently? how does your car run? cause with those kinda of conditions your car would run like shit.. if at all.
sorry for the barage of questions.. just trying to get to the bottom of it.

Yeah, I wanna know what you did to do that? Did your timing belt break? If it did, let this be a warning to all those who need to do their timing belt change and haven't yet. (myself included)

what so funny about preludes being fast? i'm assuming he's talking about the 1995 VTEC Prelude. are you guys not? the H22A motor is nothing to laugh about. 2.2 liter, DOHC, 190hp and 158lbs of torque stock. if i had a honda that's what it would be...not too expensive, excellent aftermarket, responds well to mods, and the popularity is nowhere near the civic. unless you swap out the turbo on a GSX or GST then a modded Prelude could easily hang with one. how do i know you ask? because two of my best friends have owned those exact cars and raced on several occasions. both cars were highly modded (GSX retained T25 as i said earlier but that biznatch is maxed out boost wise) and the races were always neck and neck. and no it had nothing to do with the driver, these were from rolling starts. obviously the all-wheel drive is gonna hook up better. i'm just saying if anyone says a Prelude is slow has never driven one or just has the famous "i hate hondas for no apparent reason" syndrome. just my 5 pesos, and that ain't much :P

no the timing belt didnt break - i dont think they are pulling my chain they do all the work on any foreign in my city - they are good and trust worthy - he said the engine was shot b/cause it would smoke really bad after idling for like 15 minutes or so just sitting there - and he said in his professional though "the engine is shot" - and i was lookin or found a 1998 civic hatch DX with a Si motor in it - now dont tell me that would be fast - it will be faster than a 2g with every bolt on - i love my 2g - i dont wanna get rid of it :( this sucks - if i get rid of it all my parts up for sale...new header/new hr springs - aem cai used 3 weeks/ 5zigen rear exhaust any one interested? and dont move this to a for sale cause it not i am just seing it poeple would like it or "take a byte"

I have a feind that used to have a 13 second GS-T and he now owns a new prelude type SH vtech. He runs 16.0 almost everytime. The thing is so heavy its so damn slow. And you said that a prelude keeps up with a GSX. SURE!!!!!!!! A GSX with basic bolt ons runs low 14's. No prelude can run low 14's unless they have forced induction. And the reason why I laughed about preludes being fast is because when I race them I leave them so far behind i swear I am racing a Yugo.

Is that the only symptom? Smoking after a long idle time? Sounds to me like either bad valve seals or bad rings. Neither of these problems constitute a shot motor. I have a stock bottom end sitting in my basement if you are local. I have had plans for this li'l motor, but if you need it, and you are local, I will put it back together for ya. Anything to keep you in the GS, man. -=B-= '96 GS <=== wouldn't want to abandon my machine for a relatively small problem

new 420a engine...howell rebuild kit $1000. works for me?? just spend a bit more and get some je piston rings with it. you can also up the compression to 12:1 if you never plan on turboin and you want it to be better than new.

im with dave on this one...ludes got nothin. a stock GSX will take a stock lude every time, "minor" mods on a prelude are considered what? $1000 for IEH? haha, do you know how much $1000 will do to a GSX, AFTER all the free power mods are done?

i've seen a prelude driven at the track with i/h/e/pulleys and i ran a 14.3 - so dont say it cant run low 14's cause it can you have to know how to drive and have a manual - yea i am located in waco, where do you live - yea thinkg aobut it he said it was shot but he said the exact thing - valves and rings - that means its not shot...i dont know what to do - ahh - the civic would be fast - but i love my 2g?!

21733, RE: Engine is SHOT!? Posted by Breezio, Apr-30-02 07:31 AM
from a mechanics perspective.. your motor is shot.. you'd need to rebuild almost the entire thing to get it in proper running order again.. so what he is saying is true.. but just cause your "engine is shot" doesn't mean it's the end of the world. and can be fixed without too much money I would think. alot less then it's gonna take to sell an eclipse with a shot motor and buy a civic.

compression numbers please?
|
21735, RE: Engine is SHOT!? Posted by DarkOne, Apr-30-02 10:01 AM
That's what i'm saying. I want to hear compression numbers before i'd believe anything any mechanic tells me.
I could get your motor re-ringed in a day, if you were anywhere close.

hey 95eclipsegsna - ill take some of your parts if your not going to keep the car just email : rfair35@aol.com let me know what you want for them - im looking for the header - exhaust - and springs. pesonally- i would keep the car - buy a junker for a couple hundred just to drive - pull the engine in the eclipse- and rebuild it. just my thoughts tho.... plus- who wants to leave the dsm club!?!?!?!?!?

21737, RE: Engine is SHOT!? Posted by Erik, May-04-02 02:48 AM
Compression #'s he stated earlier was 50 or 60 in one or two cylinders. Man I can't believe you can't feel the chain that's tied to you!? If it smokes and no compression, the thing I'm thinking is that the head WITH the bent vavles is the problem. If the valves don't close, then you'll have no compression. Have the head fixed probably for 300 and change everything that goes along with 60K tune-up and be done with the deal for about $1000 if that much. I'm sure any local 2g'er can help you out and save a ton of money. No offense but it sounds more like you want to be in a Honda instead od a DSM.
