21566, Ticking in engine - Lifters? Posted by Shifty, Apr-27-02 10:54 AM
I have a constant tick-tick-tick in my engine. It does not go away after warming it up. I have heard that due to the knock sensor this can hurt performance, plus its annoying to have an engine that ticks. A fellow DSM owner told me i have to replace my lifters? What are they and do you guys agree that could be the problem. Hopefully you guys can help me out.

well i will tell i had this problem, but it turned out to be somethng totally diffrent than the lifters. I would check the EGR vavle on the drivers side for a loose connection, the DarkOne told me that when it is unpluged it ticks like a bitch, and he was totally right, it does! But what exactly does the tick sound like and where is it coming from, i had a spun rod bearing, and the sound was coming from the top of the engine, like it was a lifter.

It sounds like it is on the passenger side, by the belts. I agree with your top of the engine thing. I think the belts are ok. Should i take the car to Satan? or to a mechanic?

Mine ticks since the day I bought it (about a year ago). There is lots of peoples on here that tick too if I remember right. I don't think its anything harmful but I'm not sure - assuming mine is the same tick as yours. Mine will sometimes go away though...not sure why.

Hey Shifty, There is a little silver canister, with 2 Air Conditioning lines going into it.It also has a little glass window on top of it.If you put a screwdriver up to it you will here the clunking/clicking. And yeah the noise is most noticeable when your by the passenger side of the front bumper. The solution is to replace the A/C evap canister or do like i did and wrap it in dynamat.Hope this solves your problem.
