21336, spend $$ on a/t or switch to m/t Posted by xenonx, Apr-25-02 07:52 AM
I found a place that has a new a/t with shift kit and aftermarket torque converter for 2800. Should I go ahead and save for that since my car is already a/t. Or should I look into converting to m/t. I want to eventually turbo the car which would be better?

I think the Level10 tranny is way too much money unless you're building a full-out drag car. You can buy a couple of there servies for cheaper and be very happy with the results. You send in your parts and they modify them. It will cost you about the same as the AT-MT swap. If you're going turbo in the future, I say save your money for turbo and strong internals. Boost 15psi daily and you're AT will still be FAST!

i know this is kinda of an impossible goal but in the end I want my dsm to waste my friends 5.0. He has a worldclass transmission,4:10:1 gears, mack exhaust, and is getting a supercharge put in next week. With out the gears and the supercharger he runs a 14.7... I know he'll get me off the line cause of torque and he has a m/t... My tranny was rebuilt about 7 months ago and feels like its about to dump on me again. Thats why I thought about just getting a whole new tranny instead of paying 1700 to get mine rebuilt agian. Also anyone ever put twin turbos on a dsm?

ditch the auto. its a pos, i hate mine. it will always be your limiting factor, unless your building a 9 second drag car...

what would it cost to convert to manual..Also anyone sell new manuals or a kit to convert or will i have to go yank everything from a used car. With my tranny luck I am kinda wanting to go ahead and spend the money on a new one(I shelled two a/t in less than 3 months, 2 different cars though).

If your gonna do it just get the manual already, I somewhat agree with the auto comment posted above, BUT, if you can not drive a stick your way better off auto..

It doesn't take too long to learn to drive stick. Worth it, IMO, and this is coming from someone who actually did the swap! -=B-=

I agree with 1bill. It's DEFINTELY worth it to do the swap. Especially now with speedo issue resolved thanks to ADP. :) Swap will run you about $1500 or so. BTW, I'm swapped too. :thumbsup

My swap cost a bit less. I found the tranny for 675, and everything else for 100 bux. Add a hundred bux for pizza and beer for the peeps who helped me, and $5 in wiring, and it comes out to under 900. Then again, I didn't really pay labor. Just had to install the 5 speed twice. I am really good at it now, though... :-P -=B-=
