Hey, what's the easiest way to get the block out?

- Unbolt the tranny? (I'm A/T) or pull everything out together?

- Remove the head and pulleys first or just leave it all on?

- Can you really jack on the oil pan?? (To remove motor mounts)

For some reason, Chiltons skips from timing belt steps to "we will assume your block is now on the workbench."

TIA, I've never done this before.

Pull the front suspension. Remove the axles. Remove the center member (under the car, attached to the front motor mount). Remove the washer bottle, battery, battery tray, battery tray mount bracket, intake pipe, radiator, both upper and lower hoses, and both heater hoses. Disconnect fuel feed line, air temp sensor, brake assist line, MAP sensor, TPS and idle air harnesses, and the injector harness. Disconnect the stock fuel pressure sending unit and knock sensor. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor from the back of the tranny, as well as the rverse light sensor and any other harness you have on the at i don't on my mt. Remove PS pump bracket, throw PS pump off to the side, unbolt AC compressor bracket, throw off to the side.

Grab the engive with an engine hoist to hold it steady. Pull both side motor mounts, lifting and lowering with the hoist when necessary. Remove rear mount(under washer fuild res. location). Hole the engine level with the hoist. Lift out.. watch for any harnesses that may still be connected.

I may have missed a few things. That's about all of it, though.

It's not as easy as i made it sound, but that's just about everything you're going to have to do in a scrotum (nutshell).

Just don't break anything :nono

Just wanted to let you know that I did not have to remove my tranny to pull my motor, even though it was a M/T. The ONLY problem I had was the little plate that's on the bottom of the bell housing portion of the tranny. It did make it a little more difficult to get in that way, but damn, didn't have to pull the wheels off even, let alone pull apart any suspension or spill a drop of tranny fluid. I do not know if that method works with the A/T though.

I even left the alternator on when I pulled mine. No difficulty besides that one little plate.

Kaiser - I was gonna rent an engine hoist... I have access to a pickup and a beater on the weekends. Let's at least rip it out saturday. I'll make sure I give better warning so Pn0y can come for the install in a couple weeks.

I'm going to try really hard to get a 2.4, but for now, I'm sure I've gotta pull my block. It's definitely going to need some machining. I drove almost 4k miles on a cracked piston. :7
