21132, question about plugs.. Posted by jasonhko, Apr-23-02 01:41 AM
I just changed my pluga again.(every 7000 miles). Well.. this time when I changed them I noticed that the colors were different from the last time. I was always under the assumption that white power on the plugs being removed meant good plugs.. but this time my plugs are black. well a dark brownish black. Does this mean that somethign is wrong with my engine?? Am I running lean?pr rich?? I dunno about this cause I dont have any mods other than a intake and exhaust on my car. no A/F gauge or egt gauge as well.SOo.. what this mean?? everything ok or I just giving myself a headache for no reason?? hit me back at jasonhko@hotmail.com thanks.

When the plugs are covered in an almost black coating, it usually means that you're running a little rich (carbon buildup). That's OK, unless it's covered heavily, which means a really rich condition. That isn't too good because running too rich for a long period of time could cause the O2 sensor and cat-converter to go bad.
