I really screwed the pooch!!! Please tell me if im fucked or if i can get by: I broke off one of the bolts on the outside cam bearing cap on the intake cam, farthest from the cam gear, in the head. i have all others at torque specs. will i be okay to run with just that one bolt broke or do i absolutly have to get it out and re-tap the hole for a new bolt? Please help with some answers ASAP. Thanks tim

from what I know of engines.. DO NOT DRIVE THE car in it's current condition.. take off the the other bolt and cap and there is a good chance you can get the broken off bolt out without damaging the threads (won't have to re-tap) and just get a new bolt and put it in. But don't drive the car.

DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE until that is fixed!!! All the bolts have to be there, and torqued to spec, otherwise, the cam can become unbalanced and cause wear on the main bearings, which could lead to cam movement, which could lead to bent valves...well you got the point. Later.

If it makes you feel any better, I broke a cam cap bolt last summer. I was using the torque wrench below its range and overtorqued a few bolts (only one broke). The bolts sheared near the top so it just screwed out by hand. I bought a complete set of cam cap bolts and a proper inch-pound torque wrench.

Yeah do not drive like that. Try to get the bolt out. You can use an extractor, and save the threads. If you wind up retapping it you probably wouldn't be able to tap to the same size as it was. In which case you would still have uneven torque on the cap. So you would need to helicoil it. But try to get it out without damaging anything, it ios possible.
