2078, Fuel filter HOW-TO...?
Posted by Navigator, May-19-01 03:23 PM
I'm due for a new fuel fiter. Just wondered if there was a vfaq or how-to on doing this.
I've got a '96 Talon with about 75K.
As far as I know the fuel filter is mounted on the firewall. Is it an easy change or should I be calling satan?

Thanks bros...

Easy to change once you remove the windshield wiper fluid bottle. However, I think that you may need a "flare wrench" for the upper nut. I think you could get away with using a regular wrench.

Also have some Teflon PASTE (not Tape) and smear the brass/copper thread of the fuel filter fitting before screwing it on.

Before you start pulling every thing apart, shine a flashlight down the firewall near the winshield washer tank. Just to make sure your fuel filter is there. I'm just saying this because I thought 96+ cars had the filter near the gas tank. If it is on the firewall, it should probably look like this (torque specs are there too).
