20748, help?? (re: Sucked Water Into Motor)
Posted by riced eclipse, Apr-19-02 08:00 AM
ok, so i got into a wreck, as usual. i went through a median that was full of water and slammed into a pontiac aztec. here's the deal, i picked up water through my intake, don't know how much, and i dented my exhaust, right at the bend below the o2 sensor. naturally the car choked out. i kept her running and pushed most of the water through the engine (bad smoke), and changed the oil asap to get the water out of the pan. now i only get about 250 miles to the TANK when i used to get 400+. idle sux too, she wants to die on me. i intstalled a catch can between the int. man. and the valve cover to catch and water/oil that was left in the head. but now i'm out of ideas. can someone PLEASE help me out on this?

I would start with a compression test to make sure you didn't suck in enough water to do damage. And go from there.

Yeah, check your compression.. ya might have bent a rod or damaged a ring or valve.. and a compression test will tell ya if that happened.

haven't gotten to do the compression check yet, but i was looking down into the plug wells and wouldn't you know there's oil in #1. what does that mean? plug gaskets? or head?

thanks

oil in the plug well with teh plug still in? that's a common problem with eclipse's.. and isn't anything too serious.. it wouldn't have anything to do with your accident and water thing. Just meanst the spark plug well gaskets (atleast one) is leaking, happens alot.

Where does one go for a compression test? And how much does it cost?

TIA

go to any autoparts store and get a compression tester (make sure it'll fit your car) and do the test yourself. It's pretty easy.

damn dude, you really got assraped on the o2 sensor.

satan's parts should only be bought if you have to do so... you could have got the o2 sensor from nopi for 40 bucks and installed it in 15 minutes...for future reference.

there is no nopi in bfe texas. autozone doesn't carry them here. the only place that does, is advance a.k.a. sears. so what do you expect on a sunday? and, i had to drive 45 miles to their wherhouse to get the s.o.b. the worst part is it's not an oem. its a universal, that i had to splice in. i need a new car. $45k and it runs like shit and looks like shit, again

How about a new motor, body kit, and temporary PJ thats should solve all your problems as far as looks and performance go.
