20627, 2.4 L & 420a block stuff (long) Posted by thedawg, Apr-17-02 06:34 PM
Since I'm looking for a new block to do my rebuild, I decided what the hell, go for the 2.4 - Figuring if I can do the install (im stupid), and not break the new motor as quick as I did my last one (20k turbo miles), this would be a GoodThing(tm) for everyone.
Here's the info I have so far, can anyone add to it?
The -2.4- Mopar comes in these cars: Avenger/Sebring Stratus/Cirrus/Breeze (a/t Dec 1994-present) PT Cruiser Caravan/Voyager (a/t Dec 1994-present) (B is 8th VIN digit: L4, 16V DOHC MPI) Neon SRT Liberty Jeep Cherokee ("PowerTech" Engine)

is similar to the 2.0-liter Neon engine in design and construction, but has a longer stroke, a taller block (9.36" vs 8.35" on the 2.0), a dual overhead camshaft cylinder head and dual counter-rotating balance shafts that reduce engine vibration. The 2.4 has a high compression ratio, (9.4:1) and knock sensor. Along with the 2.0 liter engine, it has a partially open deck, bedplate, powdered metal connecting rods, crankshaft design, sealing features, fuel injection system and direct ignition system.

it is identical to the neon 420a 2.0 with the except of being 1 inch taller. it is also a 420a. and since are heads are identical to neons, just got the internals reversed, our head would fit on the engine no problem

hehe, I'm doing this too. I'm actually going short block hunting this weekend. I think I've found all the parts I'm gonna need but I can't find someone that sells 2.4l eagle rods. Anyone know if they are even made?

So will the old 2.5L Turbo2 motors' rods work in this 2.4/420a application? I don't want to get aluminum rods because I want the car to last for at least another 100k miles street driven. (Good luck, I know...)
What other options are there besides stock 2.4 rods (no way), these GRP aluminum rods (won't last), and the mexican 2.4-turbo's rods (I'm not in mexico) ???
TIA!

>>>The -2.4- Mopar comes in these cars: Avenger/Sebring<<<
Don't bother looking at any of these. They didn't come w/ a 2.4 in America.
