2062, Help! My new Belts are squealing really loud! Posted by Danny95ESI, May-19-01 07:50 AM
Hey everybody, it's been a week since I got my timing,A/C,alternator belts changed. It was running quiet for a week and until today. When I start her up, she squeals for a minute and sometimes when I mash the throttle, it starts squealing again. Mike95RS said in a previous post that new belts need to settle, so is that the case or do they need tightening? Is it ruining the engine if I keep driving it?

yeah sounds like they are settling in but check the tension with a tension gauge or just tighten them.........loosen the lock nut and then tighen with the adjusting screw

How long they need to seetle for, Im taking my car to satan tomorrow or wednesday cos ever since they changed mine it has a sound not reeally a squeel but more like a woofing sound, i only hear it at idle but im sure its on all the time I just cant hear it with my windows down and music.. At first i thought it might just need to settle but It's been around 3k miles since i had it changed and still does it. Car drives fine though..

woofing sound........does your car seem to sway towards animals as you drive down the road?
