pressure washers have a tendancy of forcing water into places it doesn't belong. i use gunk FOAMY engine brite and a regular garden hose to rinse. then i go around with a rag and get the trouble spots. finish up with a nice armor-all wipe on the hoses, valve cover, etc. and it looks like new.

Is there any engine prep work that needs to be done before using a water hose on it, such as covering up certain parts from water?

be VERY careful around the spark plug holes though. our engines are notorious for water getting in there.
