Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but here goes. After finally making some progress tuning this pig, on the way to work I turned onto a side road. Through 1st, into 2nd. Then I got on it and the tires spun to redline from about 4000 rpms. Shifted to 3rd, and the car feels like the front wheels are falling off. Seems to be shaking from side to side. If I push in the clutch, it rolls fine (even at 40 mph), and the motor revs fine (no strange vibrations). When I got to work, I checked to see if the tires were indeed falling, which they weren't. Any ideas? Tranny shifts fine and there was/is no grinding or other weird noises. TIA.

Did you have the recall work done? They replace the lower control arms as part of the recall and that could be part of the problem. Either way it sounds like something in your suspension is loose.

Yep, recall has been done - both sides. I'm thinking it may be something to do with the Quaife.

COuld be both front tires spinning, causing it to pull to one side then the other, or it could be your stock axle's death throws..

Well I don't have stock axles, and this happened while rolling a 40 mph just letting the clutch out - not necessarily accelerating. It almost feels like it is ocillating grip from wheel to wheel, but why wouldn't it do that with the clutch in? I'm gonna go take it for a spin around the parking lot and see what's up.

Ah, that's right, you've got the good axles....

It may be doing exactly what you describe. Since it is a torque biasing dif, one one whell comes loose, it shifts power to the other, which causes it to spin, and so on and so forth.

However, i can't see this happening at a cruise state. If you weren't accellerating, the only thing i can think of is maybe your wheels aren't balanced..

Well after the test drive, it feels like the right wheel is the one with the movement. At decell, steady throttle, or clutch in, she rolls/feels just fine. Just the slightest hint of acceleration though and you can plainly feel something is wrong. There aren't any suspension pieces hanging off, and the faster you go the stronger and faster the ocillations are. I'm gonna call RRE and see if they can help.

Probably something in your right front suspension.. lots of things won't give signs unless the wheels are under load (from acceleration).

Well.... If your car wobbles like an out-of-balance washing machine, check the inner cv on the axles. My left driveshaft is on it's way to The Driveshaft Shop for a new inner CV joint. Just imagine the raw horsepower it takes to break a Stage 3 axle.... Too bad I can't keep it as a trophy! Thanks to everyone for the ideas and replies, and thankfully I'll have the axle back friday morning so I can make it to the track friday night.

I should have said "it may be your axle's death thoes" then, and left out the word "stock" :-)

I would kill for a DFI, Quaife, and Stage 3 axles to break. Some guys have all the fun... :-(

Well, I wouldn't call it fun, but Dino you were right on the money. I know what it feels/sounds like when an outer cv goes bad, just not an inner (until today). Odd to me though that the Stage 3 "race" axle was the weakest link. I wonder what's next??? Another upside - I can have the axle out of the car in less than 10 minutes from the time I pull it in the garage. Talk about familiarity...

And thank God I didn't have to drop that damn tranny AGAIN!!!

Man, I have heard of several sets of stage 2 and 3 driveshaft axles breaking... i dunno bout them, armond? didnt you break a set of stage 2's? hmmm, i am scared now cause i havent had a good clutch and quaife in until now... so i will be joining the broken axle club before too aweful long i suspect...
