Posted by eclipsekaiser, Apr-05-02 07:37 AM
Okay I just came back from the Norco mitsubishi dealer with 4 qts of Diamond ATF SP III. Is this the equivalent to Mopar 7176 tranny fluid? or is it the equivalent ot Dexon 3

confused?

It will say for Chrysler vehicles somewhere in the front or in the back (if it doesn't say this...well). It will usually say ATF+, ATF+2, ATF+3, or ATF+4 in the front (it will always say ATF with a '+' on it). Just to be in the safe side, that looks like for the 4G63 tranny, I wouldn't put it in. NEVER EVER put Dexron on your tranny. Good luck

Alright I just called:

Norco Mitsu again: they say Diamond ATF III

Norco Chrysler, Jeep dealer: PArts guy is an idiot and hard to understand.

Riverside Chrysler Jeep dealer: they are equivalent to Mopar ATF3+

Ontario Mitsu: they are equivalent.

So I think it is safe to use Diamond ATF SP III on you Auto tranny. Plus I checked the owners manual over and both the Turbo and Non-turbos use the same fluids

Anybody else have insight to this?

We have the chrysler a604 tranny, and the turbos have some mitsu tranny. What I would do is search online to see what other people with the a604 tranny use. I think that technically you could use any equivalent fluid, but the point some people were making is that only the mopar fluid is the best, and the others might mess up the tranny. I think most dealerships parts guys won't know enough about our specific trannies to say. Let us know what you figure out.

i used to work in a oil shop and saw that we use the dextron 3 in our power steering. ATF+3 is what we use in our tranny's if i remember right, but don't quote me on that cause it's been a year. the turbo models use something different. the dealer always says that you have to use their fluids at all times but that's a crock, plus if they tell you that you'll void your warranty on it if you don't, don't listen to them cause they just want money.
