19250, Damn EGR tube

My EGR tube has melted my EGT gauge probe wire. My gauge was acting crazy so I took a look in the engine bay and found the wire was melted to the egr tube. I took the wire off the tube and it still works. I realy need to get rid of the whole EGR sytem. It is worthless. When the EGR is taken off do you get any noticable hp gains from it? You would think so because all that hot air isnt going back into the engine.

No real gains, no.. because the EGR only works at cruise and cold startups.

You'll idle a little rough, but it's no big deal. i can sell you a set of blockoff plates for the EGR tube for like $5. it leaves the valve and actuator there to keep the CEL away.

The one thing I noticed was a slight improvement in throttle responce in some situations, due to the EGR closing at WOT and being open at cruise conditions. No real gain in hp but it's more a way to keep the performance you have, by not dirtying up the intake manifold.

Una salus victus.

just get rid of it.. I also went the extra step and cut the tip that oges on the intake mani off welded it shut and put three "nipples" on it made from brake lines so that all my vacuum lines are directly fed off the intake manifold and not off one another...
just an idea.....

I assume there is a write up on this but where is it? I may just be blind or something but did not see it in the mods section. I may want those block off plates too but don't have the $$$ till friday.

On a side note the EGR system only helps CA emissions it actually raises COx in favor of reducing NOx(if memory serves which is which). Most states that do emissions testing only test for Carbon monoxide and Carbon dioxide.

The only bad thing is a CEl... which if I ever get down to see Jason again we'll see if my fix worked for tricking the ECU. (need OBDII software to check, I removed the CEL bulb from my dash).
