Hey guys...Im looking at upgrading my stock BOV, but dont really know where to start or whats involved. I've been looking at Greddy. What do you guys think? Would I be able to install it myself? Does it need to be calibrated?
How much PSI does my existing stock BOV hold and how much will a Greddy BOV hold?

What do you guys think of these?

if you want the best of the best for a BOV, get either the HKS super sequential, the apex twin chamber, the blitz super sound or the greddy type-s. they will all "perform" equally but these are the best looking/sounding units from their respective makers (the Big 4 as far as engine performance goes... apex, hks, greddy, and blitz)

I run the Apexi dual chamber and love it. I've heard the HKS on a few other cars..as well as the Greddy. They are all nice selections and will all acomidate your means. Basically no differnce in performance mostly sound difference's. Before choosing a BOV you should take into consideration BOV's that will vent to the atmosphere. On our cars (Turbo) the stock BOV returns the surged air back into the engine. This air has already been metered though the MAF,(notice the BOV is behind the MAF) thus the engine dumps in fuel to accomidate for this air. If you vent to the atmosphere, with units such as...HKS, or like my Apexi the car will stall out inbetween shifts or at partial throttle...TOO MUCH GAS and not enough air..your basically choking it. Basically put Venting to the atmosphere doesn't allow metered air to reach the engine...but the computer has already sent fuel for that air... I've seen different variations of how bad they react. It's never exactly the same...some cars react worse then others...no 2 are ever the same. I think Greddy is the only one that comes with a return dump tube, but don't quote me. However, if you have an AFC the hesitation and stalling isn't anywhere as severe. The AFC has a setup called DEC-Air that is directed for use in this area. As far as the stock 2G BOV it's JUNK! It's only good for about 11-13psi max...after that the sping in it just gives and it vents. The stock t-too small turbo isn't good for really anything above 16psi...after that it's just blowing hot air. A cheap replacement is simply to get a crushed 1G bov. They are good for 20+psi....and only cost about 70bucks.

Good Luck

Im not great with mods so bear with me.
Since I'm all stock....What will or will not happen if I JUST upgraded to a Greddy BOV or any other BOV? Is it worth the money?
What will I gain or lose?

I wouldn't say that your going to see a huge differnce from simply upgrading the stock BOV, especially if your running stock boost levels. Some but It certianly will be nothing that's gonna blow you out of your seat. Like I mentioned in my post to your other question, In my personal expeience and in some other people I know swaping out the BOV gave them a couple of more PSI. 1 to 3 more is what I've seen, and mostly when it's cold out. However I can't say for sure you will gain the same amount of PSI. The stock wastegate is set for 14ish PSI so you should pick up some PSI..just depends on the shape your BOV is in at present. Those BOV's are extremely finicky..I've heard tales of some cars BOV's holding 15 or more PSI..do I believe it...maybe...who knows...not every car is built exactly the same. I find it very unlikely because everyone I know personaly it wouldn't hold much over about 12-13,..most of the time you see 11 or 12 for stock boost with a stock BOV. My car right now with the FMIC and upgraded BOV running on stock wastegate only gets about .88bar..which is about 12.98psi...with a 1psi pressure drop though the IC..that's about right on target. If your BOV does indeed suck and is not abnormal like mine did and like most other stock 2G BOV's....and you swap it..and get some PSI That would be good for a little extra power, But Granted...your first mod really should be a Boost gauge and a Jumptronix or some sort of a/f meter. Saftey first..then fun. Just take the money that the greddy BOV costs and get a 1G BOV from Buschur and a manual boost controler that would be the best way to go about it. That's my .02 on dat one.

Good Luck

also, just to be clear... the 4g63 uses a MAF sensor but the 420a uses map and iat sensors. therefore you can dump the bov to atmosphere without confusing the computer.
