18766, my continuing engine problems!!! Posted by JustOne, Mar-29-02 12:15 PM
Well I checked my timing and everything is ok. The crank gear lines up w/ the tdc arrow and the crank gears are lined up too. I have a code 22 but I don't see how that would make my car run so rich at idle. I know I am hella rich because I put new plugs in and they are black. I havent even drove the car yet i have only had it at idle. What else would make my car run so rich? I dont have the dfi on yet so that is out. I have the fpr set to 47psi and it stays put so that is out. I didn't have any problems w/ my inj. before the re-build. I just dont know what would make my car run so rich. It is so rich that it wont start w/o opening the trottle 1/2 way or so. Does anyone have any idea what would make a (at this moment) a basically stock set up run way to rich?
my only guess is the hrc fuel cut def. is bad. But I dont know for sure. that is all I can come up w/
thanks

The coolant temp sensor will do it. If the ECU thinks the engine is cold, it injects more fuel to warm it up. If it's plugged in and a reset doesn't clear it, replace it.

Fuel pressure sounds good... Still stock injectors?

Coolant temp sensor sounds like the culpret. It'll do it, too.

That only comes into play at WOT. Nope...

He has the 625cc injectors (i think, I know they are 6xx). Dont you need the dfi on to control injectors that size?? When controlled by the stock ecu I would think their size would make you run rich, I dunno. Im no expert on this by any means

what size injectors are you using? like Dino said it could be the coolant temperature sensor for the ECU, you can test it, make sure that it is the ECU coolant sensor, there are 2 one for the ecu and one for the temp gauge. but if your car is cold when it won't idle, which i assume it is because you say you cannot start it, it probably is not that sensor because the coolant hasn't even had time to warm up yet. well, check the 02 sensor, IAT sensor, map sensor, and TPS, a bad one of these will cause what you are seeing. lates, james

Wouldn't you have to have some kind of stand alone unit to run injectors that big? Otherwise, you would be VERY rich at idel...correct?

DFI and injectors are not on yet. I am going to do all that stuff after the break-in. I have the stock inj on at the moment.
I put in a new coolant temp sensor and wall-a. Idles are right where they should be. It starts on the first turn and seems to be ok now. (Fingers crossed) So the break-in begins, well after all the bodywork.
Thank for the help Dino you hit it right on the nose.
