18560, Regular Oil to Synthetic Posted by MrClean125, Mar-27-02 04:52 AM
I've heard several different things about switching from regular oil to synthetic so i'm not exactly sure what is true or not. I plan on putting in some Royal Purple synthetic next time i change my oil. For clarification's sake, is there anything special that i need to do?
Oh, one more thing...can i get some cam gears and be able to keep them when i get a turbo?

You can switch from Reg oil to synthetic. however.... Royal Purple is not exactly synthetic. it is synerlec which is better then synthetic. Depending on how many miles you ahve on your engine. by using the reg oil you may have built up seals that would keep from leaking in some spots. The royal purple more then the synthetic will dismantal them. leaving more crap now floating in in your engine causing possible problems. i'd suggest getting the best filter you possibly can to collect that crap. and you may possibly end up with some leaks. Just keep in mind there are many forms or royal purple. Royal Purple 5w-30(and other weights is equivalent to full synthetics, but better)and then they have Racing 21 which is what i use however thats about 10$ a quart it does get pricey. given 5 quarts 50$ then the filter for 15$ my oil changes arent cheap but neither is a car so thats just how i look at it. the 5w-30 i'd reccommend changing after 3000 miles give you will have all that crap. after that if you choose to use it again you can change it every 7,500-10,000miles. the racing 21 has to be changed every 2500 to 3000 miles. i really wouldnt put that in the first time you use it as it may cause a bit of problems from the conventional oil.... sorry so long i hope all that helps... you can goto. www.synerlec.com to find out more about royal purple.
