They are worth it if you can have them tuned on a dyno, thats the best way to be able to get appropriate gains from them, also good if you have different cams, the can calm a wild idle as well

Import Tuner got about 7hp to the wheels fromthe cam gears. They also said that that power was found throughout the entire rev range and not just at the peak

now another good question is, where is a good place to buy the AEM cam gears???
hey, you think I'm just going to sit around at 15.589 and be happy with that? :)

Todd why not get the fidanza from Howell for 250? they are 5 bolt vs aems 3. and possibly lighter.

Fidanza had problems from what the neon guys experienced, and I would definitely stick with AEM. My AEM cam gears still look perfect after about 2 years, and their new bolts are so much easier to adjust and tighten (8 mm hex bolt). I think the cheapest was 270 from howell. If there is a lot of interest, I can see what I can work out either through me, or through another local shop. It probably wouldn't me too much cheaper than 270 though.

I would be interested, even if you could get them for me for $270, hell even if you can get them for $300, it beats $350!!!
I didn't think howell sold AEM, just fidanza cam gears (and I heard about problems with the fidanza as well)
let me know if anyone else is interested, I think since so many sources have shown (with proper tuning) that they do give gains on the stock cams, it'd be worth the purchase.
besides, I only have so many bolt-ons left I can do :)

Can you keep them on even with a turbo?

i'm almost positive you can, i think it gives you more gains when a turbo is involved also. but you should probably get it re-dyno'd when you put a turbo on there.

Basically the adjusting the cams with the gears effects how air/fuel gets in and exhaust gets out of the engine. This will help if PROPERLY tuned on All Motor, Nitrous, and Turbo applications.

I have the aem cam gears and they did not help on the dyno. The shop I had the car dyno'd at was AEBS in Cali. It was on the dyno for 6hrs. I managed to get 300 to the wheels yet the car didnt like anything we did with the cam gears. I wouldnt spend the money unless you've done all the other major bolt ons. Late Mike

Really? I got about a 5 hp gain through most of the power band on the dyno, and Murix got a 10 hp gain when he dyno'd his. We both found intake advance 2 and exhaust retard 2 degrees was best on a stock head. Now with my milled head, I have no idea how to tune it for max gain, and think I will need a lot more dyno time to figure it out.

Same as the v-tech huh...I guess if you crawled out of the car while it was moving and adjusted them...you would get almost the same effect. Anyway, although expensive Unorthodox racing makes some nice cam gears (5 bolts). I just changed mine since I was doing a 60K service.
