18300, Code P0401 EGR Failure?

i went driving today and at a stop my car was making some noise from the rear or so...plus the car wanted to die but did not...on my way home i notice a cel...i got a code P0401 from the ob2 program it said, exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient detected. title auxillary emission source specific controls... also is said test not completed or failed is oxygen sensor heater and catalyst monitor?
i got the cd dsm manuel and there is a bit to check... what should i check 1st and how should i ?

What kind of noise was it making from the back of your car?
If the egr failed I wouldn't worry (unless its stuck up!) or you worry about fuel economy and power gains.
It sounds like you have a few problems- almost sounds like your O2 sensor is going out too.
Is the intake really really loud? Does it sound like you have race cams now? Could you get the car over 30mph?
If you answerd Yes,Yes,and No. than your O2 sensor is out.

well my car is able to go over 45mph i dont get alot of noise form the intake or so... when i was stop at a light and my car wanted to die out it sounded like my fuel pump or so in the rear wanted to turn off also... but that was for a split second... im going to drive her around and see if the code comes back since i disconnect the battary and if it does i'll look into it more...feedback?

it should be the egr solenoid, there isnt much to it, someone said you can just clean it out, sometimes gunk builds up around the valve and stops it from working

the cel came back on and same code... i guess i have some work to take care of any advice? the car does want to die at idle at a light...
