ok i just had satan do my HG under warranty a couple of weeks ago. now yesterday drove over 200 miles to my friends house for the weekend. when i got here i checked my fluids and the coolant was a little low and when i checked the oil there were bubbles on the dipstick! so apparantly, satan screwed up putting in the new HG. so, i'm going to take it to them when i get home, but i need to know if it is ok to drive over 200 miles home. i know that water in the cylinders is bad. i wouldn't think it'd be enough to cause a problem, but what do you guys think? also, how is it possible to screw up replacing a HG. i hope they didn't warp the head or somethin' from not torqing(sp?) it down right. anyway, any advice would be appreciated. tia

I hate to be a pessimist, but you do risk severe engine damage if coolant has gotten into the oil. I'd advise that the car not be driven until a pro has had a look and can make an assessment. Best path would be to call the dealer and ask them what to do: they may offer to tow the car for you , as it would be less expensive than an engine should the problem become magnified by driving home.

did u check your fluids while the engine was hot?? i have seen the bubbles on my dipstick after a 20 minute drive. also, coolant chills in the engine for a lil while. i have checked my resevoir and it has been low, then it fills up as the engine cools off. i have also had the opposite, and had less coolant after teh car sat for awhile.

i would listen to HRC tho, they know their shit! but it may be nuthin...

you guys really think that i should tow it? that sucks! it was while it was hot though, and before the trip, i checked the fluids while they were cold and i didn't notice any bubbles on the dipstick. could that be the reason...i mean, how is it possible to screw up a HG install, unless the head was like warped or something. i had to add coolant before the trip, but it doesn't look like it has gotten any lower since. do you think that if i just drive it down and then complain to satan that they'll fix any other damage? how could i tell if there was any other engine damage b/c of it? sorry for all the ?'s guys, i am just a lil pissed about the whole thing.

Unfortunately, it's imposible to make a call on this without having a look at the car myself. I can't do this, but any pro mechanic should be able to assess the situation effectively enough to determine whether there is a gasket leak or not. As mentioned above, bubbles alone do not indicate the presence of coolant in the oil. Get a pro to look at it before you return home. And whatever you do, also call the dealer who did the repairs. To protect your interests here, they should be notified.

i just talked to satan, and they didn't think it was a big deal to drive. they said to just bring it in when i get back, so if anything gets messed up, they're fixin' it. i also just checked the fluids after it has been sitting for a day, and there were no bubbles on the stick but the coolant did look slightly lower...oh well, thanks a lot for the help guys

I would have added "If there is engine failure from driving on it, it is your fault, satan", also, I would make sure you got the guys name you talked with.
