Probably not, but you could probably do a compression test, just for fun.

you dont have to run it 1000 miles ya know? 600 should be enough and as soon as you hit 600 just do an oil change again.

okay so then why do people say that the rings did not break in correctly or like this ring is better than that ring because that ring doesent break in well....is it all BS?

Personally i would take my time on this James. Wouldn't want to warp the rings again and have to tear down the whole block just to replace them. Patiences.

There is a great change in "feel" between a new motor with fresh rings and a new hone than a motor that has been properly broken in.

When the rings are fresh and the bore is nice and hatched, the rings are really grippy - when you go to start the car, you'll hear you starter HIT the flexplate and pauser for a split second while it builds torque enough to move the fresh rings. Fresh motors feel rough, and have a bit more vibration..

Drive one, you'll see.. And you'll notice the change in "feel" too .. but this doesn't mean it's ready for you to romp on it to 7000RPM, either.

A leak down test woudl probably tell you, but usu, if they are installed correctly, after about 600 miles (give or take), you should be completely fine

i'm not trying to rush the break in, and i'm not about to jeapordize a correct ring break in. I was wondering this because people say oh these rings suck because they never break in correctly or those rings are good because they break in fast and other BS like that. I wanted to know if there is a quantifiable way to determine if the rings have properly broken in or not. i know what you are talking about Dino, it felt a little wierd when i started my car for the first time after the rebuild. it was a little rougher and had more vibration. although the idle was very consistant and acceleration was smooth. when i start the car now it does seem like the starter builds up a little more effort before it turns over. so Dino, when the rings eventually get broken in i WILL notice a difference in how the car is running and idleing? that is good to know

In a word: Yes.

You will notice. You may not be thinking about it, but one day you'll start your car and you'll realize something feels RIGHT, something feels the was it should be .. it feels normal.
