17660, belt probs...help please
Posted by Semperboost, Mar-17-02 02:52 AM
My car is kinda acting up. Last week ny car starts making this 'whurring' sound comming from the belts...then the next day when I'm pulling out from the driveway my sterring feels a little stiff...my my power steering is out, but returns to normal when I drive. Then a couple days later my car starts to overheat going uphill. I think they are all related due to the belts or something. The belts look good, coolant level good, power steering good. Anybody help thanks

Do you have a UDP?? IF you do and are still using bando belts then that might be the problem. Ive had mine on for just over a week and mine does the same thing. Its like the belt slips so the power steering pump quit turning for a sec, thus no power steering.

Sounds like your PS pump going out. Take off the belt, and sping the pulley by hand. It should spin without much effort. If its really hard to spin, or really easy, I'd say a bad pump. Check the condition and tension of the belt also...

Before you replace the belts check the copndition and tension on the belt it could just be the belt stretching, it haoppens to all belts. Over tim ethey need to be retensioned.
