Posted by onebaddsm98, Mar-17-02 02:34 AM
hey guys hows it going. I was just wondering my horn hasnt worked for a while, and I taking my car apart so I can have it painted. I took the horn out to replace it, but my dad checked the horn (hooked it up to car battery) and it works fine. I think its the wiring but I dont want to take it to the dealership cause they'll charge stupid amount of money just to look at it. Also Ive heard this is a common problem with dsm's. Is this true? Need help ASAP! Thanx eh

Def check your fuse, and you say the horn works with a battery, so look for that. Also, it could be your contacts in the steering wheel. I know one of my buttons, i have to really press it down hard for it to sound. The wire color at the steering colum is a green/black wire. By grounding this wire, the horn will sound. Find that wire if the fuse checks out, and ground it. The horn should sound, if not, then there is another wiring problem somewhere..

The cause of a horn not working 99.9% of the time is a blown fuse.

u can also see if your wiring is ok by usin a multimeter. Just find the plug that plugs into the horn underneath the car and put the multimeter leads on the two metal contacts on the plug. It should read 0v and then have sumone hit the horn buttons on the s-wheel. It should read 12V when sumone hits the button. If it does that then your wiring is ok. If it still reads 0V then ya, id say a fuse, bad switches, or maybe its just unplugged underneath the airbag thing on the steering wheel.
