17135, K & N Filter vs. AEM filter
Posted by lap561, Mar-11-02 03:49 AM
I just read that AEM has a new air filter that is 1-3 HP better than their previous filters. http://www.aempower.com/new_product.htm

Which is better air filter as far as performance and quality, AEM or K & N?

And does anybody know when the K & N Typhoon for eclipse is gonna be available?

In my opinion you start splitting hairs when you talk about which filter is the best between two quality filters (K&N and AEM). NOTE: I am talking about filters, NOT intakes. Anyway, I like that you can clean the K&N and “recharge” it. I would be surprised if either one yielded higher HP ratings than the other.

I thought AEM used K&N Filters?? At least they used to anyway.

There was a thread in this board a WHILE back, pointing to a site comparing filters. They used a vacuum cleaner and stuck a filter in the end of the tube as a test. They were comapring air flow and filtration ability (not all filters air the same way). I think the candidates were, Apex, Blitz, HKS, K&N, and some others. The one that came out on top (having flowed the most air and filter the most dirt) was the Apex-i filter. I think the worst was the Blitz stainless steel filter then HKS. The Blitz one was nasty, it had all this gunk built up at the end of the vacuum.

I posted this site once last year and I am pretty sure it is the site you are talking about:

Nice...thanks for all the replies.

I tried searching for Apexi filters for NT eclipses, but didn't find any. Do they make kits for 2gnt?

AEM used to use S&B filters back in the day. Then they switched to K&N filters. I believe they are still using K&N manufactured filters, but the AEM filter is special due to the redesigned air horn. I think it is the part that extends out like a small pipe. I would just get the new AEM filter since they don't lie about proven hp gains. I also like their new polished CAI (its powdercoated clear and looks shiny almost like chrome).
