17068, Whiny Transmission

I just installed the Symborski shifter bushing kit and I installed a Neuspeed short shift kit. My transmission "whines" in first and fourth gear. It kind of sounds like a bus but not quite as loud. Is this a normal sound after installing the bushings, or do I have to adjust the shifter cables?

I dont know what the buschings or shifter cables would have to do with the transmission making a whiny noise.

Yeah thats weird. The only thing I can think of is that the cables might be too tight, and that is pulling on the shifter and therefore there is pressure in the tranny. You know like if you are driving and you pull on the shifter, you can hear sort of a little whibe?? I dont know I am taking stabs in the dark. And when exactly did it start? you might try putting the old shifter in there to see if it still does it.

I think it started after I put in the short shifter. I think I have to adjust the cables. By freind that drags mustangs and stuff told me not to adjust them because I may over engage a gear or break a tooth or something. What should I do?

Well id mess with it, but just be careful go back to the begining and work your way threw until you find the problem, once you find it fix it, and once you fix it come back here and tell us I wouldn't mind knowing what it is.

I went out just a few minutes ago without the console on and for some reason now it is just fourth gear. It starts around 2500 rpm. Does anyone know how to adjust the cables or know where a how-to is?

i think it was machv.com... go and look for the instructions on installing the symborski kit. Then at the bottom it has link to adjusting the shifter cable. Its for a first generation eclipse but the concept is the same. Sorry if im wrong about the website, i look at so many I cant remember where everything is.

I just have a light whistle in 4th gear. It's from 2500 and up only when I accelerate. I let of the pedal it stops.

The whistleing gets louder as the engine runs faster.

Sounds like gear whine. My tranny's always had it.. but unless it's really loud or sounds abnormal, i wouldn't worry about it.

No, my tranny wasn't being rebuilt, i just needed the front case/input shaft seal replaced. it's been done.. we got it done in a coupla hours.

The tranny was in primo shape inside. Not a single fleck of metal on the magnet. http://www.heavenz-not-0verflowing.com/pics/tranny_work

Has anyone successfully done a auto to stick swap? How much did it cost? Upgraded flywheel, clutch, short shifter, pedals the whole deal?
