I was considering replacing the head gasket (just cause the engine is running alot of miles now) with a new copper gasket. Would this be a smart thing to do ? I dont want it to blow on me...

haha.. i just passed the 120K mark three days ago.. we are getting old man! how is the engine holding up? i myself need to replace the headgasket, and will probably have to replace the valve one too. i would suggest you do a compression test, and if there is no sign of engine build up, then it would be my guess that you wouldnt need to replace the gasket.. dont get me wrong, im sure at 120K, it couldnt hurt, but it might not be necessary. when was the last time you changed it? also, time to start thinking about your second 60K tune up.

Well here is the thing.

I just got the car a couple of weeks ago. The engine is running fine, with no leaks. I dont know when the last time the head gasket was changed...so thats why I was thinking it might be a good idea. I really want my little eclipse to last me for a couple of years..thats why I plan to rebuild in the near future.

As for a tune up, I was about to do that anyways..I figured it couldnt hurt.

One thing is for sure...the 420a is one tough mother. =)

Well, your headgasket has probably never been changed, unless the previous owner told you that the engine was rebuilt... If you want to pull the head and replace it, order the factory replacement from Mitsu.

The oem replacement is good enough, I can run 30psi with no leaks(knock on wood).
