16823, oil on spark plug! help!!! Posted by joshacu, Mar-08-02 06:53 AM
ok i was changing my plugs and noticed oil on cylinder 1 and 3 plugs. the oil isnt on the ceramic above the threads or around the electrode. the electrode looks fine, whitish brown. the oil is on the treads themselfs. there also looks to be a little i the top of the shaft, but i'm not dure about that. what do you think is wrong. rings screwed up, headgasket, or valvecover gasket. those are just my guesses. tell me what yall think. thanks guys. -Josh

it's your sparkplug well seals. They come as part of the valvecover gasket set.

If the oil is in the wells themselves then it's the valve cover(plug well) gasket. I'm having the same problem on cylinder 3 but I just changed my gasket and it still has oil on the threads but the wells are clean. I would LOVE to have any help on this since the car hesitates on hard take offs. Other than that it idles and drives fine.

Having the same problem here but I was getting blue smoke as a result some how, I had a lot of oil in the spark plug wells and it was driping off of the boot also, just as yours the electrode was fine and car runs outstanding. You definitely should track down Corbin he probably could tell you exactly how to fix it or at least where to get help. A temporary solution I came up with was at my last oil change I added some slick 50 engine treatment to try to seal things up a bit, I know it may sound stupid but it solved the problem, haven't had much smoke problems either. Im staring on wheel and body mods right now but eventually Im looking at a rebuild before I do the the turbo, I hope you have better luck, but then again we are dealing with mopar engines, and if I didnt love my eclipse so much I would never buy anything else with a diamond on it but a ring.
