16814, Stock Intake vs. Stock Intake w/ K&N Cone test

So Ive been driving with the stock intake for a while, but finally someone convinved me to put a K&N cone and remove the air box. So I decided to run some quick temperature tests. I used a Pocketlogger OBD-2 tool, and the temperature of air intake was as reported by the ECU. Outside temperature was 45 degrees F, humidity was 81%. The engine was allowed to sufficiently cool before the intakes were switched. Only the part of the intake box that is directly attached to the filter was removed. After starting, the car was allowed to idle for 10 minutes. Cruise was at 30mph. In both cases lowest temperature readings were recorded at 70mph. Highest temp reading was the highest temp that the ECU processed over the entire test.

Stock Intake:

Car Startup: 96 degrees
Prolonged Idle: 100 degrees
Cruise: 126 degrees
Lowest temp: 96 degrees
Highest temp: 148 degrees

Stock Intake tube w/ K&N Cone filter

Car Startup: 99 degrees
Prolonged Idle: 105 degrees
Cruise: 86 degrees
Lowest temp: 68 degrees
Highest Temp: 105 degrees

So basically, putting a simple K&N cone on your intake does help a LOT. With the exception of prolonged idle, all other air temperatures were below that of stock intake with stock filter and box. There was almost a 30 degree difference at highway speeds! Even normal driving yielded lower temperatures. I dont know how this relates to horsepower, but the air was definately colder, which should mean more horses. I will once again try this test when I make my own cold air adapter. Hope this all made sense.

If youre wondering why I did this, the answer is we all get bored sometimes :) I tried making this as even and scientific as possible, and I can export the graphs into excel if anyone wants to see em. If anyone has any questions, please post.

Sweet, good work. I think along with cold air giving more horses it lowers the octane. I read that for every 20-40decrees drop you gain like 1 point octane.
