16314, Chrystler Sebring V6 motor... Posted by Niclipse, Mar-03-02 04:11 PM
The other day my friend who drives an automatic Sebring v6 with intake filter and a muffler stopped by and I cracked open his hood. I remembered that ebayed Red Eclipse that had this motor swapped into.
So he took me for a spin and it didnt really feel faster then my car, actually it felt slower to me (yes I know its a heavier car), so I asked him to line up with me. We were on a two lane road. I beat him off the line, but in and around 20mph he started crawlign up on and me and at around 45mph I was at his mirrors. I had to mash the brakes because a truck was coming head on for me. Anyway, bottomline is his auto v6 with a cheesey filter and a cheesy muffler (not cat back) was beating me and I have pacesetter headers, udp, aem cold air intake, and a muffler (yes, i am auto too) and my car is lighter.
My friend said that his car is rated at 160hp. The setup in the engine bay is very similar to ours, such as the way the ecu and the fuse box sit, etc. As I looked in his engine bay, the area around his headers looked kinda crammed... do they make a turbo kit for this car?
Well anyway, since I have been sitting back trying to think what I am going to do with my motor situation, I'm trying to weigh all of my options and I am really digging this one. I would like to possibly buy a Sebring v6 motor and manual tranny and tweak it here at my house. And turbo it. Do you think there is enough room in our engine bay to turbo that motor. If they make a turbokit for that car, it'd have to be able to fit in the eclipse too because that sebring engine bay was jam packed!
I know you guys are very much into the 420a motor, beefing it up and very anti-motor swap, but im thinking that maybe the sebring motor might actually have more potential then ours.
What problems do you guys think I might run into before I buy this motor, I can get a great deal on it, the tranny and all the labor. Fill me on the info, dont flame me.

That sebring with the v6 (mitsu motor) only came in auto in those cars, so I don't know how easy it would be to custom a manual tranny to it? Probably easier to swap a 2gnt manual tranny and turbo your 420a. Also, I don't think there were any successful turbo kits for that v6 motor yet.

The sebring/avenger V6 is a mitsubishi motor (6g72 I think), so it wouldn't be a direct swap and the eclipse/sebring manual tranny from the 420a probably wouldn't fit. I'm sure it could be done though. Don't forget that engine is MUCH heavier and would completely change the way an eclipse would handle, throw off balance. My girlfriend has a sebring v6, and it's dog slow. My bone stock 5 speed stomps it easily.

you want to swap right - what would be the cost of gettin that motor and tranny?? - i bet if you pay a little more you can go turbo... think about that

Just so you know, the manual tranny 420a asogers are faster than the auto v6 asogers. I would just do a tranny swap

there is a knight supercharger for that engine almost finished, and talk to sicklife on the asog board, he has the TWIN turbo v6 almost finished after alot of money and work mostly in piping/welding.

Its true, the i-4 5spds are quicker than the v-6 autos (off the line) On the highway, its a different story. Just a heads up though. Sandman (from ASOG) is working on the turbo kit for the v-6(6g73). And there is also a 5spd swap in the works for the 6g73 as well. The 5spd tranny from the 420a will not fit. (different bell housings)
Youll have better luck beefing up your 420a and doing the 5spd swap. As of now, there is no aftermarket support for the 6g73, so any internal work done would have to be custom. There are too many options available for the 420a, so unless you want an expensive challenge your best bet would be to do what everyone else is doing.

Also keep in mind.. the 6g73 V6 is a 2.5L and makes 160hp.. there is an i4 2.4L 420A that makes 150hp, but 40 more ft/lbs of torque than the 2.0L 420A, and is mostly a sraight-forward swap compared to trying to shoehorn a v6 in there.
If you are just dead-set on swapping in another motor, get a 2.4L 420A, swap it in, and turbo it. You'll be breaking driveline parts at 7PSI.

it doesn't

You will need the ecu and all the engine bay wiring harnesses
A.D.P. bring it on............
