today out of no where my tranny starting slipping to a major extreme.

i was pulling out of the mitsu dealer, went to speed up with traffic, and the rpms soar but i just crawl along. the tranny went into limp mode of course, but even in second any thing over 1/4 thottle or so and the tranny slips. the tranny had been doing great up until this, no signs of disaster before hand. no leaks, and no jerky shifts. fluid was nice and red and was at proper levels.

i dont know much about trannies, especially automatics, but im assuming the clutch packs burnt out(?). what do you guys think? the tranny was rebuilt about 30K miles ago due to torque convertor failure.

its a 95 i4 automatic with 73K miles. the engine is a factory rebuilt put in 30K miles ago, right before the tranny was rebuilt. only mods are intake and muffler.

to top off everyhting, warranty ran out about 4K miles ago. im thinking this tranny is shot and since im paying this round, either a level 10 rebuild is going in or a 5 spd

Sounds to me like the torque converter is bad again. I don't think autos have clutch packs..maybe they do I'm not sure. The TQ converter is what makes the car go. That is what I would think it is if I had to take a guess.

yea, the autos use clutch packs which are controlled by fluid pressure to engage gears. its the auto variant of a clutch. i dont think its the torque convertor since its slipping. im guessing clutch packs are burnt or the plate.

actually we have a twin plate clutch in our application .. its not a bad tranny .. just the seals suck !!

Thing is, the clutch packs should have been replaced with the rebuild (if it was a full tranny rebuild)which means they may have reused the old ones which now have 76K on them and could just be normal faliure. No real way to find out. I'd go with a level 10 rebuild but the 5 speeds in the N/T's are pretty strong so it is a toss up. (if you had a turbo version the auto is stronger with upgrades than the 5 speed.)
