I have the same problem, my 96 GS has 74000 on it, seems like this is very early to replace an engine or rebuild, but I've noticed that this is a common problem with all chrysler manufactured engines. I get blue smoke sometimes at red lights and a white foggish smoke sometimes when idling, on the highway it's fine nothing but power, no loss of power when accelerating. Im looking into replacing the engine but I need to know if thats the best thing to do, or what I should do next, I was told by the local mitsu dealer that a rebuild would be just as expensive as replacing the engine, my car was put on the computer and ran fine, the mechanic told me the engine was fine, but what the hell am I going to do about the smoke?

Blue smoke generally means burning oil. White is often coolant or condensation. I think every single '80 Chrys/Dodge minvan smokes. I don't think I've ever seen a 2GNT do this. First step is a compression test:

That will give you an idea of where you stand. For reference sake, I get 205-210 in all cylinders on a 55k motor.
