For those interested, we dropped my tranny. More pics to follow when we open the bellhousing.

It needed work, due to a leaky (which you'll see) input shaft seal. 90w gear oil is not good for your clutch.

Hey Dino, what did you notice when it started leaking? Was the clutch slipping at all? Feel funny when you launched?
16107, RE: Pics of what i did last night..
Posted by DarkOne, Mar-01-02 05:28 AM
it destroyed a Centerforce DF. I thought it just wasn't up to the power.

When the Stage 4 CM started slipping and chattering at high load (90mph, 10PSI, 4th gear), i knew what was wrong - the old clutch had been covered in oil, and the rear main was bone dry. 2+2= ...

Wow hehe wish I knew how to rip my tranny apart and stuff. THen maybe I can fix that damn loose shifter cable.

How long does it take to get the tranny out and install a clutch? Sound like I can save a lotta money if I do it myself :)

Pop the CV axles, Let the trans drain, remove battery, disconect linkage, unplug sensors, unbolt motor mount unbolt trans from motor and you can lower trans. Do the work with a friend or two so you an manuever the trans around. You should be able to swap a clutch in a day. Take a Saturday and you should get it done.

Yep, John has the cleanesty engine bay I have ever seen. Mine is all dirty and nasty. But mine puts out a lot of horse power. I think their is a linear ratio between dirty engines and fast 420a's. The dirtier the engine the fast the car.

It depends on what's broken..

Take it apart, show me what's broken and where it came from, and i can probably give you a part number.

The 3rd & 4th gear synchro assembly you broke is part # M04761133, in case you were wondering..

nice pix DarkOne kept me entertained for a while. :P What does welding the diff pin do?
16119, RE: Pics of what i did last night..
Posted by DarkOne, Mar-02-02 12:33 PM
The pin is an interfernce fit, it holds the spider gears in the differential. I have heard from multiple sources (Stan, rpm97talon, several 2GNT'ers) that the pin can back out of the housing. If that happens, the transmission will literally explode from the loose gears flying apart.

It's just a bit of safety and insurance.

Posted by SaberKhan, Mar-02-02 07:35 PM
Heh, yeah. I'm pretty sure thats what happened to mine. It literally exploded and flew out the bottom of the transmission case. Dino, I'm gonna send you those pics I promised a long time ago. Post'em up :)
