Anyone that has a Phantom Grip, I need to know what you dont like about it. And also what you do like. Tell us what boost levels your running, or what setup you have. Reason being is that I have a company I am working with that can produce Limited Slip conversions for our stock diff's. They have learned from where Phantom Grip has failed, and they are still looking for more info on our particular tranny and diff. Also, anyone that has a good stock diff that wants to let us use it as the prototype will be rewarded with a free conversion kit installed. Hopefully our units will excel where the phantom grip fails, and be a hell of a lot cheaper of an alternative than the Quiafe LSD for 1200 bucks.... 2 leggers are better than 1 :-)

sounds cool, I'd lend you mine if I didn't need it :P True LSD would be great for autox or drifting. :)

These guys are doing much the same as PhantomGrip with some needed design improvements. Haven't really tested yet in high Hp car but don't see why the design should change anything there. Limiting factor is pretty much going to be slip and axles. As most run the same axles in their LS rearends, shouldn't make any real difference. Only place it realy might matter, in my initial thoughts, are at the drag stip with the guys who are hooking up seriously with big loads. All of them run aftermarket axles as is, so...
As far as cornering, that is almost where the desire really is. Powering through turns is what it's all about. These converasion kits respond in the same way through turns that do most LS, if made right. Just a factor of how much slip, which they can vary with desire.
Testing at track, etc, shows major handling gains and advantages.
In the Mini, for example, can now dive into the turn and nail it to bring rear out, like it's supposed to. Mini's are in the same boat. LS even on sale is $1,000 bucks not to mention other parts and set up.
If someone can locate a diff and send it to me, we'll build you the parts specifically for that one for you to have. For your help, of course, no charge. They think they are better than the competition as we know what shorcoming exist there.
If I can get EVERY complaint/problem everyone has had with the Phantom Grip, it will help even more. Tell me the springs you've tried in the Phantom. Have some springs you've not used? By measuring these, we can better know what mistakes not to make in our case for our trannys. For example, if you have the gold springs in your unit and still have a set of reds you can send for us to evaluate, might help. Anything like that.

Brad,
The real problem is that our diff is really not that great for handling power above 350hp. Anything that relies on the stock diff above that would scare me. Greg just swapped his Phantom Grip to a Quaife. Here is a pic of the stock diff and the Quaife if it helps any. You can see why almost by looking why the Quaife is stronger.

Greg, you have been running 12's on the stock diff on slicks? Wow, thats pretty good luck :-) Yeah, I didnt figure any kind of conversion would ultimately be the answer to high hp engines, but I figured since I have the ability to have these guys put into production kits for our car, it cant hurt to atleast have them availiable, seeing as how most people are under the 350hp level... Greg, what was the finally initiative for you to get the quaife? I am on the edge, got the money in hand, but it could be used for so much other stuff than just 1 thing :-) And Greg, yeah, if you can let us use your diff to calculate fitment for the kit, it would help out and maby we can get someone on here to play around with it. ________________________
There are some inherrent flaws in the design of the Phantom:
1. The spring pressures needed to properlay engage the unit are excessive due to the coefficient of friction of the contacting surfaces. This, in my opinion, is higher preload on the cases than should be experienced. 2. There are production tolerances from diff to diff which are not allowed for in the Phantom design. In one application in which we have trial fitted one of their units, for example, the springs afforded with the unit were in coil bind when it was set up properly. That means an attempted solid connection, as you know.

Brad,
I meant the other Greg :p We have two Gregs now running fully built cars. I meant Greg with the Star setup. :)
