I cant seem to find the part number or find a dealer that knows what i'm talking about!

Its listed on the service manual as the "Output shaft roller bearing". It is a plastic roller bearing that is housed in the bellhousing of the transmission case that supports the end of the output shaft that drives the differential.

None of the dealers i've been through has this bearing illustrated on their diagrams...

Help!!!!

I may be able to find it for you tonight. I just went through the same thing trying to find the input shaft seal :-/

I need two of those darn things. Seems they break left and right. I got two 5 speed transmissions open on my bench, and the *SAME* parts are broken on both of them!!!!

I mean, why design a PLASTIC holder for the bearings?? =/

Why not machine a steel one to replace it?

I've never heard of that breaking before..

it may cost some good $$$ to machine a custom fab bearing. To use an already made bearing, i'd have to find a bearing out there in the market that has the same O.D. and I.D.

Ok guys i found the part number. Its part# 4761093. Found it for $30.25.

Funny.. my part number was one digit different.. M04671090

strange. When i get it, i'll check to make sure its the right part. If its not, then i'll try your part#.

My part number was MY obscure transmission part i was trying to track down. I was just commenting on the fact that i found it funny yours was only 1 digit off.

Maybe all the hard-to-find tranny parts are the same general bin, parts 1-9 or something.. haha

Thanks for the info guys, I need one also! They break when you put the cases back together and things don't quite line up right. I can't beleive they're sooo thin.

If you need to know the dealer i bought this from, i can help you out too.

I wonder if hrc or the neon folks have made a replacement for this yet....

Depends. Be careful when you take the bell housing case half off and dont break that roller bearing.

Hey armond, you up to finding/manufacturing a stronger roller bearing NOT made out of plastic? ;)

Could this bearing cause an extreme rattling sound inside the tranny only when the clutch is released and only under 2250 revs?

I have this wierd rattled sound mentioned above in my car, and although my car drives fine, the clutch grabs hard, it sounds bad. My mechanic heard it and said that it might be the output shaft bearing. I took it to mitsu when it WAS under warranty and the guys there could not here it. When one of them thought they heard it they blamed my BM short shifter.

Now I read this and find that my problem may just be a $30 piece of plastic. Most shops tell me to get a new clutch cause the cost of dropping the tranny is too much just to replace a bearing. Please, someone find a non plastic replacment. Damn POS plastic.

How about tonight i get some measurements of the I.D and O.D. and maybe we can find a replacement bearing that is NOT plastic?

Your noise may very well be that. There are very few things inside our tranny that can just fall off and your tranny still work.

I am up for that..... If you can get the specs, Inner Diameter, Outer Diameter and thickness or width of the bearing, then perhaps there is another bearing from New Venture that we could use. How hard is it to drop the tranny and just change these bearings? How heavy is the tranny unit housing and all. And do I need a lift to take it off the car?

I was also wondering if it was possible to take the lower fifth gear from the neon version of our tranny and put it into our tranny. I think that our fifth gear is .89:1 and the neon one is .71:1. I would not mind having a lower engine rpm while cruising on the highway.

I'll get you the specs for the roller bearing this weekend. I'll post it on here.

Its easy to replace that bearing. Dont need to take the gears out.

I can lift the tranny myself, without breaking my back. And i'm a darn skinny guy too.

I do recommend an engine hoist and a good hydrauic jack. When you remove the tranny, all that is going to hold the engine in place is the side passenger's motor mount.
