15796, squeaking belt Posted by EclipzeGamer, Feb-25-02 04:40 PM
Ok, I just bought my car, and the there is a belt squeaking on the left side of the engine. The chick I bought it from said it did that when she bought it, and all three shops she took it to said it was nothing to worry about. My question is how can I figure out which belt it is and if it really is nothing, and if it can be fixed. Thanks for the help

some of us have had squeeky belts when we switch the udp. try some belt dressing or tighten the belts a bit.

go to an autostore and ask for belt dressing... proceed to spray the hell out of your belts.
took me 5 tried to get it to stop over a course of a week.
But before you do that.. just check the condition of your belt, make sure it's not cracked or looking like it's about to break.
it's usually the power steering belt that's squeeky and yea, that's usually not a problem.

My power stearing belt began to squeak after my UDP instalation. I don't konw if the UDP is on the crack shaft all the way. When I look strait down the belt it looks like it gose at an agle from the power stearing to the UDP. I am hoping I can fix this by beating the UDP on the crack shaft a little furture. Is this the problem that everyone has?

Def check your belts, and the shape they are in. Check the tension on it too. When i got my AFX pulley, the P/S belt made a kinda "whooshing" noise, usually when it was warm. I took a close look at it while the motor was running, and i could see the belt edge kinda move a little bit. It wasn't the whole betl, just one side if it. So my belief was a bad belt that came with the UDP, so i went and got a Kelly Springfield belt(55", 5 rib), and everything is perfect, no noise. I would replace your belts anyway, its cheap, and will most likey get rid of the squeaking, as long as you put the proper tension on them..
