15635, code 43!! Please Help!! Posted by tenzoeclipse, Feb-23-02 08:50 PM
I was messing with my buddy and I was going about 80-90, in 3rd and I went to put it in 4th and I ended up in 2nd. Right after that the check engine light came on and my car sounded like shit and that it was about to die. Luck for me I was a mile from my house. I havent got a chance to look at since it was like 3:30 in the morning and Ive been drinking. Im such an IDIOT!! The code read 43 43 55. Any ideas on what to check, I know that it has to do with the ignition. Could it be something that I could fix or should I take it to the shop.
thanks, chris

Thats a code due to misfire. Start by changing plugs, then wires. If you still have problems it may be the coil pack.

The plugs are only about a month old. But it seems odd that that code appeared and not something else. What causes misfire? How did what I did, going from 3rd at close to red to 2nd cause this?

disconnect the battery to clear the codes, it could have just been a temporary thing and the code might not come back, is the car running funny now or not?

take your plugs out and check it... it wont hurt to change them, and also how many miles do you got on your car? check the resistence of the wires if you can change them to... if none work it could be the coil pack like 420a said... code 43 only says, ignition coil #2 primary circuit but i think you did the key thing so dont know if its the same... if u got a bud with a 2gnt sway your wires to see if its that so u dont have to buy a set yet. cool Michael 99gs- hrc stage 2

It could be due to the fact that the engine was over-reving(unless the limiter can catch a second gear change quick enough) since you were doin(I'm guessing)8500+rpm.

Same thing happened to me about a week ago. I got new wires and everything was fine. The check engine l;ight will go away after a few hours when you get new wires. And if it still does it when you get new wires and new plugs then you need an ignition coil. I have one that is brand new if you want to buy it from me.

How much do you want for the coil pack? I changed the plugs and the wires. Im going to reset the ecu, but Im not sure thats its going to help.

You got this code because your car was misfiring. It misfired due to the fact that you hit the rev limiter. It is no longer misfiring, but the code will not clear until you reset the ECU. I am almost 100% certain thier is absolutely nothing wrong with your car.

I checked the plugs, wires, and coilpack, all are fine. I tried reseting the ecu, just unhook the neg battery cable for about 10 mins right? Then restart the car. I did this a couple of times. It still says the same thing code 12 43 43 55. My car wont go over like 1000 rpms, it starts to die at idle. Any more ideas.

I have an oil leak. Im not sure where its coming from but it seems that its on the back side probly were the valve cover and head meet. Could this problem occur from compression pressure? Im taking it to the shop 2morrow morning. Any ideas on what else to look for.
thanks, chris
