The question is this: do i need/should i replace the lifters as well, or are they okay. Im not wanting to do a complete head job yet. My cams are said to work with all stock stuff. | |

15573, RE: HEY: cam knowledgable people, last question Posted by Fast420A, Feb-23-02 09:19 AM Good idea to replace them. One of my stock rockers broke after I changed cams but that was because I didn't shim my lifters right away. I ran for about 2 weeks without the lifters shimmed. | |

In fact, I can change all 16 lifters and rockers in about an hour with the cams still on the car. I found a walkthru on ASOG but it is down right now. Basically take off the valve cover then you will only need 2 screwdrivers. Start with the rockers on a cylinder with the cam lobes facing up. Put the tip of the screwdriver against the head bolt next to the lifter using the shaft to hold the rocker in place. The other screw driver is used to raise the end of the rocker opposite the valve stem off the lifter which presses the valve down. Use the other screw driver to move the rocker away from the lifter and then remove it. It's hard to explain but once you figure out one it's simple. After changing the ones with the cam lobes up, give the engine a quick tap of the starter to turn it so you can do the rest. | |
